Chhattisgarh (CG) - one of India's fastest-developing states - was formed in November 2000. The Mahanadi river originates in Chhattisgarh near Raipur, and the state is a major source of electricity and steel for the country. The Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE) was constituted on 20 September 2001 under legislative notification and conducted its examinations independently from 2002. Headquartered in Raipur, CGBSE is responsible for conducting High School (Class 10) and Higher Secondary (Class 12) examinations, prescribing syllabi, and recognising schools. Textbooks are published by the State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), which handles curriculum formation, textbook preparation, and teacher training.
