Properties of Multiplication :

(i) Order property of Multiplication : The product of two numbers does not change when the order of the numbers is changed.
For example : 12 × 4 = 4 × 12 , 15 × 20 = 20 × 15 etc .

(ii) Grouping property of Multiplication : The product of three numbers does not change when the grouping of the numbers is changed .
For example : 12 × (10 × 8) = (12×10) × 8 .

(iii) Distributive property of multiplication over Addition :
12 × (10 + 8 ) = (12 × 10) + (12 × 8 )
12 × 18 = 120 + 96
216 = 216

(iv) Multiplicative property of 1 :
Any number × 1 = the number itself .
For example : 123 × 1 = 123 , 546 × 1 = 546 .

(v) Multiplicative property of 0 (zero) :
Any number × 0 = 0 .
For example : 645 × 0 = 0, 1245 × 0 = 0 etc .

Multiplication of a number by 10 : When a given number multiply by 10 , insert one zero on the right of given number .
For example : 34 × 10 = 340 , 276 × 10 = 2760 etc .

Multiplication of a number by 100 : When a given number multiply by 100 , insert two zeros on the right of given number .
For example : 56 × 100 = 5600 , 539 × 100 = 53900 etc .

Multiplication of a number by 1000 : When a given number multiply by 1000 , insert three zeros on the right of given number .
For example : 97 × 1000 = 97000 , 2649 × 1000 = 26490 etc .
