QUE.NO.1. Describe the influence of China on Vietnamese culture and life.

Ans.    (a) Vietnam initially was under shadow of China.

           (b) Even after independence Vietnam followed Chinese culture and form of government.

          (c) Chinese was the language of the elite and Confucianism and was followed by a majority of   Vietnamese. The Vietnamese Scholar Phan Boi Chau was educated in Confucian tradition.

 

QUE.NO.2. Why did the people of Vietnam protest against the spread of Christianity?

Ans. (a) Vietnamese religious belief was based on superstitious whereas Christianity had a relatively more modern outlook.

        (b) The Vietnamese had strong belief in Buddhism and Confucianism.

        (c) They began to look down on Christianity as a danger to their religion.

Ans. Condition:

(a)    No right of laborers was specified.

Ans. Colonies were considered essential to supply natural resources and other essential goods. So the French took following steps:

(a)    The French began building canals and drainage lands in the Mekong delta to increase cultivation.

(b)    Trans Indo-China rail network to link the northern and southern parts of Vietnam and China.

(c)     The second line was also built, linking Vietnam to Siam.

          (c) The school wants to introduce modernism and western custom.

Ans. Impact of Great Depression on Vietnam:

(a)    The Great Depression of the 1930’s had a profound impact on Vietnam.

(b)    The prices of rubber and rice fell, leading to rising rural debts, unemployment and rural uprising, such as in the provinces of Nghea and Ha Tinh.

(c)     The French put these uprising down with great severity, even using planes to bomb demonstrators.
