DATA INTERPRETATION

Data interpretation is the process of assigning meaning to the collected information and determining the conclusions, significance and implications of the findings. The goal of interpretation of data is to highlight useful information and suggest conclusions. Our age is the age of computers. Data is pouring fast in print media and other usual media in very attractive form. Proper interpretation of data is essential, only then, can we analyze and appreciate the importance and relevance of the issue. The students will be asked to trans code the information from a diagram, map, table, chart or illustration into a short paragraph of about 100 words. The students will be provided some visual stimulus as data. Students are expected to interpret the data.

India’s deplorable performance, strongly points to the lack of initiative – satisfied with being mediocre, in the Olympics, has once again underlined the need to improve in sports. The reasons behind India’s poor showing at the Olympics are not far to seek.

In India, sport is viewed as a hobby rather than a career. Added to this are reasons like poor infrastructure, lack of training facilities and lack of a ‘killer instinct’. Children are discouraged to take up sports as there are few future career options in professional sports. It is the duty of the Indian Olympic Association to help participation in Asian Championship, Commonwealth and Olympic games; and to provide adequate training facilities and exposure to sportspersons. Sportspersons
should also be encouraged by awarding scholarships and sponsorships. There is certainly a dearth of trained coaches and this needs to be looked into for better results. The varied economic reasons too, play a major havoc in the proper upkeep of the play fields, courts and training equipment.

The government apathy, towards all sports events, would promote a better inclination, of the sportspersons towards better performance. India must stride ahead to compete with pride and showcase the innate talents of the sports men and women, in all games.
