Ans. In democracy, citizen elect their representatives to run government. This government is called representative government.


Q 4. What is the importance of representation in democracy?

Ans. Due to the high population, every citizen cannot directly run the government. So people govern through their representatives.


Q 5. Who is authorised to cast vote in India?

Ans. One who is above 18 years of age, is authorised to cast his/her vote in India.


Q 6. What is the difference between general- election and mid-term election?

Ans. When election is held after 5 years, it is called general-election. But if a government is dissolved before completing its full term, such election is known as mid-term election.


Q 7. What is the difference between two-party system and multi-party system?

Ans. When there are only two political parties in any country, this is called two-party system. England and America have two-party system.
But when there are so many political parties, it is called multi-party system. There is multi-party system in India.

Ans. At the time of election, while casting a vote, no second person comes to know that in whose favour it is casted. This is called secret ballot system. This system is very important for the freedom of an individual.
