CBSE Class 12 English - Sample Paper Blueprint & Marking Schemes Review Reading, Writing, and Literature weightage, model papers, and step-wise mark allocations. 📋 CBSE Class 12 English Exam Pattern & Marks Distribution:
• Total Marks: 100 (Theory: 80 + Internal Assessment: 20).
• Time Allowed: 3 Hours. • Question Paper Structure: Divided into Section A - Reading (unseen passages), Section B - Writing Skills & Grammar, and Section C - Literature (Flamingo and Vistas). • Question Mix: A mix of MCQs on unseen passages, note-making/summary, notice/letter/article writing, and short/long answer questions on prescribed texts. Sample Question (Reading - Note Making): Read the given passage on renewable energy and make notes on it using headings and sub-headings, in not more than 80 words. Use recognisable abbreviations (minimum four) and give an appropriate title.
Step-wise Marking Scheme:
• Content/Notes (3 Marks): Correct identification of main and sub-points using a clear hierarchical format. • Abbreviations (1 Mark): At least four appropriate abbreviations used consistently, with a key. • Title (1 Mark): A short, relevant title for the passage. Sample Question (Literature - Flamingo): Justify the title "Lost Spring" with reference to the lives of Saheb-e-Alam and Mukesh, as shown in Anees Jung's account. (In about 120 words.)
Marking Allocation:
1. Content/Value Points: Reference to Saheb's lost carefree childhood and Mukesh's stifled dream of becoming a motor mechanic, both denied a real "spring" (childhood/opportunity) due to poverty (3 Marks). 2. Expression: Coherent, well-organised paragraph with correct grammar and appropriate vocabulary (2 Marks). 📌 Evaluation Criteria followed by Board Examiners in English:
• Format Marks: Writing tasks (notice, letter, article) lose marks for missing/incorrect format elements, regardless of content quality.
• Word Limit: Answers significantly over or under the prescribed word limit are penalised. • Text-Based Evidence: Literature answers are marked on how well points are supported with reference to the text, not just general opinion. |
