CBSE Class 12 Engineering Drawing - Sample Paper Blueprint & Marking Schemes

Review theory/practical weightage, model papers, projection & drawing question formats, and step-wise mark allocations.

📋 CBSE Class 12 Engineering Drawing (Engineering Graphics) Exam Pattern:

Total Marks: 100. The written theory paper carries 70 marks (3 hours); the remaining marks are practical/internal, following the general 70:30 pattern - the practical component structure was not independently confirmed for this build and is worth checking against the current CBSE curriculum document.
Question Paper Structure: Covers Plane Geometry, Solid Geometry, Projections (orthographic, isometric), Sections of Solids, and Machine Drawing.
Question Mix: Objective/short-answer questions on definitions and conventions, plus long-answer questions that are themselves technical drawing tasks (e.g. "construct the isometric projection of..."), done by hand within the written exam itself.
⚠ Format note: because most of this paper's marks come from the quality and accuracy of hand-drawn constructions rather than written answers, this widget can only usefully cover the objective/definitional portion and describe drawing tasks procedurally in text - it cannot substitute for practising the actual drawing, which is most of the exam.

Sample 1-Mark Question (Objective): In first-angle projection, the top view of an object is placed:

Sample Drawing Question (described procedurally): A cube of 40mm edge rests with one face on the horizontal plane (HP) and one vertical edge touching the vertical plane (VP), such that the face containing that edge makes 30° with the VP. Draw the projections (top view and front view) of the cube.

📌 Evaluation Criteria followed by Board Examiners in Engineering Drawing:

Accuracy of Construction: Marks are awarded stage-by-stage for correct construction lines, not just the final visible outline - construction lines should generally be left visible, not erased.
Line Conventions: Correct use of line types (visible outlines, hidden/dashed lines, centre lines, projection lines) as per drawing conventions is explicitly assessed.
Dimensioning & Labelling: Missing or incorrect dimensions, scale notation, or view labels (front view/top view/side view) cost marks even when the geometry itself is correct.
