• Total Marks: 100 (Theory: 70 + Practical: 30). Note: unlike most Humanities subjects, Psychology has a practical component rather than a project.
• Time Allowed: 3 Hours (Theory). • Question Paper Structure: Covers Variations in Psychological Attributes, Self and Personality, Psychological Disorders, and Therapeutic Approaches, among other units. • Practical (30 Marks): Practical file of 6 experiments, a practical examination (conducting/interpreting two psychological tests), viva voce, and project work. • Question Mix: MCQs, case-based questions built around a described individual/scenario, short answer, and long answer questions. Sample 1-Mark Question (MCQ): Which projective technique for personality assessment uses a set of ambiguous inkblot images to elicit responses?
Step-wise Marking Scheme:
• Correct Answer (1 Mark): Rorschach Inkblot Test. • Reasoning: Developed by Hermann Rorschach, this test presents ten inkblot cards and analyses responses to infer underlying personality dynamics, distinct from self-report inventories. Sample 4-Mark Case-Based Question: Rohan, a 19-year-old, avoids college events, feels intensely anxious in front of unfamiliar people, and worries for days before any situation involving social interaction, even though he recognises his fear is excessive. (i) Identify the psychological disorder being described. (ii) Suggest one appropriate therapeutic approach and briefly explain how it could help Rohan.
Marking Allocation:
1. Identification: Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia) (1 Mark). 2. Therapeutic Approach: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), explained as identifying and restructuring irrational thoughts about social judgement, paired with gradual exposure to feared social situations (3 Marks). 📌 Evaluation Criteria followed by Board Examiners in Psychology:
• Correct Diagnostic Terminology: Case-based answers must name the specific disorder/concept precisely, not just describe symptoms in everyday language.
