Kerala Board Books

Kerala government school students study from textbooks prepared by SCERT Kerala (State Council of Educational Research and Training). Unlike most Indian states which follow NCERT books, Kerala has its own unique, activity-based curriculum for Classes 1 to 12. These books are published and distributed by the Kerala Books and Publications Society (KBPS).

KBPE - Kerala Board of Public Examinations is the state board that conducts the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) examination for Class 10 students in Kerala every year in March. Results are typically declared in May. Separately, the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE) Kerala conducts the Plus Two (Class 12) examinations.

SCERT stands for State Council of Educational Research and Training, Kerala. It is the apex academic body responsible for designing the school curriculum, preparing textbooks for all classes, conducting teacher training, and improving educational quality across Kerala's government schools. SCERT Kerala functions under the General Education Department of the Government of Kerala.

Kerala follows its own SCERT-developed textbooks for Classes 1 to 12 and does NOT follow NCERT books. This makes Kerala unique among Indian states. For Kerala SSLC (Class 10), students should: thoroughly study all SCERT Kerala textbooks, pay attention to chapter-end activities and questions, practice previous year SSLC question papers, focus on scoring subjects like Mathematics and Science, revise definitions and formulae regularly, and refer to teacher notes and model answer papers. The SSLC exam is entirely based on SCERT Kerala textbook content.

Kerala SSLC (Class 10) results are usually announced in May each year, typically within 6–8 weeks of the examination. Kerala Plus Two (Class 12 / DHSE) results are also declared in May. Students can check results on the official KBPE and DHSE websites, or through the Kerala Government's results portal.
