I thought he was making fun of me, and reached M. Hamel’s little garden all out of breath.

He then noticed that his sir was dressed in his best clothes and there were the elders of the village seated in the class. It was a bit later the Franz realised why the day was different. It was their Last French lesson.

Answer. M. Hamel said, “My children, this is the last French lesson. I shall give you. The order has come from Berlin to teach only German in the Schools of Alsace and Lorraine. The sad villagers were sitting on the last benches like the other students and the teacher explained the lesson very patiently.
