• Total Marks: 100 (Theory: 70 + Practical: 30).
• Time Allowed (Theory): 3 Hours. • Theory Structure: Five units — Introduction to Home Science, Understanding Oneself: Adolescence, Understanding Family, Community and Society, Childhood, and Adulthood. • Practical Component (30 marks): Includes observing developmental norms in early childhood, preparing a healthy snack for an adolescent, budgeting/time-planning exercises, fibre and fabric-care based tasks, plus a practical file. • Question Mix: MCQs, Very Short Answer, Short Answer, and Long Answer questions with a roughly 30% internal choice and a difficulty split of Easy 20%, Average 60%, Difficult 20%. Sample 1-Mark Question (MCQ): Which of the following best describes "adolescence" as a developmental stage?
Step-wise Marking Scheme:
• Correct Answer (1 Mark): The transitional period between childhood and adulthood, marked by rapid physical, emotional, cognitive, and social change. • Reasoning: Adolescence is defined as a developmental bridge stage, distinct from both childhood and adulthood, characterised by puberty and identity formation. Sample 5-Mark Question (Long Answer - Understanding Oneself: Adolescence): Discuss any four nutritional needs of an adolescent and explain the consequences of not meeting these needs during this stage of growth.
Marking Allocation:
1. Correctly identifying four nutritional needs (e.g. protein, iron, calcium, calories) relevant to adolescent growth (2 Marks). 2. Explaining why each need is heightened during adolescence (2 Marks). 3. Describing the consequences of deficiency for at least two of the nutrients named (1 Mark). 📌 Evaluation Criteria followed by Board Examiners in Home Science:
• Point-wise Marking: Each correctly named factor, need, or stage earns marks independently, so answers listing and briefly explaining each point score better than one continuous paragraph.
• Application to Real-Life Situations: Questions on budgeting, meal planning, or family relationships are evaluated on how well the answer applies concepts to the specific situation given, not just general theory. • Practical File and Viva: Marks in the practical component depend on both the finished task (e.g. the snack prepared, the budget planned) and the ability to explain the reasoning behind it during viva. |
