• Time Allowed: 3 Hours. • Structure: Part A — "Introducing Sociology" (44 marks: society and its relationship with other social sciences, key sociological terms/concepts, social institutions, culture and socialisation, and research methods); Part B — "Understanding Society" (36 marks: social structure/stratification, social change in rural and urban society, environment and society, Western sociologists, and Indian sociologists). • Question Mix: MCQs, Very Short Answer, Short Answer, and Long Answer questions, most with internal choices, testing both conceptual clarity and application. Sample 1-Mark Question (MCQ): Which Indian sociologist is well known for his work on caste and the concept of "Sanskritisation"?
Step-wise Marking Scheme:
• Correct Answer (1 Mark): M. N. Srinivas. • Reasoning: M. N. Srinivas introduced the concept of Sanskritisation to describe the process by which a lower caste or group adopts the customs and rituals of a higher caste to claim higher social status. Sample 6-Mark Question (Long Answer - Culture and Socialisation): Explain the process of socialisation and discuss the role of the family, school, and peer group as agents of socialisation, with suitable examples.
Marking Allocation:
1. Correctly defining socialisation as the process by which individuals internalise the norms and values of society (1 Mark). 2. Explaining the role of each of the three agents — family, school, and peer group — with one example each (1 Mark for each agent, 3 Marks total). 3.
