• Theory Structure: Two NCERT books with equal weightage — "Fundamentals of Physical Geography" (35 marks: Earth's origin, geomorphology, landforms, atmosphere, climate, oceans, biosphere) and "India — Physical Environment" (35 marks: physiography, drainage, climate, natural vegetation, and soils of India). • Practical Component (30 marks): Map reading and map work, along with practical techniques covered in "Practical Work in Geography." • Question Mix: MCQs, Very Short Answer, Short Answer, Long Answer, and map-based questions, most with internal choices. Sample 1-Mark Question (MCQ): Which layer of the Earth's interior lies directly between the crust and the core?
Step-wise Marking Scheme:
• Correct Answer (1 Mark): The Mantle. • Reasoning: The Earth's interior is broadly divided into the crust, mantle, and core; the mantle sits between the outer crust and the innermost core and makes up the largest portion of the Earth's volume. Sample 5-Mark Question (Long Answer - India: Physical Environment): Describe the mechanism of the Indian monsoon. Explain, with the help of a labelled diagram, how the onset of the southwest monsoon takes place over the Indian subcontinent.
Marking Allocation:
1. Correctly explaining the differential heating of land and sea and the resulting pressure conditions (2 Marks). 2. Describing the role of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and jet streams in triggering the monsoon onset (2 Marks). 3.
