CBSE does not prescribe a fixed chapter-wise split within each unit. • Internal Assessment (20 marks): Periodic tests (10) and mathematics activities/lab work (10). • Question Mix: MCQs, Very Short Answer, Short Answer, Long Answer, and case-based questions, most with internal choices. Sample 1-Mark Question (MCQ): If A = {1, 2, 3} and B = {3, 4}, what is n(A ∪ B)? Step-wise Marking Scheme: • Correct Answer (1 Mark): 4. • Reasoning: A ∪ B = {1, 2, 3, 4}, so n(A ∪ B) = 4. Note that element 3, common to both sets, is counted only once in the union. Sample 5-Mark Question (Long Answer - Calculus): Find the derivative of f(x) = x² + 3x + 5 from first principles (using the definition of a derivative as a limit). Marking Allocation: 1. Correctly setting up the limit definition — f'(x) = lim(h→0) [f(x+h) − f(x)] / h (1 Mark). 2. Correctly expanding f(x+h) and simplifying the numerator (2 Marks). 3. Correctly cancelling h and evaluating the limit to reach f'(x) = 2x + 3 (2 Marks). 📌 Evaluation Criteria followed by Board Examiners in Mathematics: • Step Marking: Every intermediate correct step earns marks independently, even if the final answer is wrong. • No Negative Marking, But No Working = No Marks: A correct final answer with no visible working can lose most of the marks for that question. • Graphs and Diagrams: Coordinate geometry and function-related questions expect a neat, correctly labelled graph/diagram as part of the answer where relevant. |
