• Time Allowed: 3 Hours. • Prescribed Textbook: "Themes in World History" (NCERT), covering 7 themes across 4 units — Early Societies, Empires, Changing Traditions, and Towards Modernisation. • Question Paper Structure: Questions are drawn proportionately across the four units, plus a dedicated 5-mark map-based question on themes covered in the course. • Question Mix: MCQs, source-based questions (extracts from primary sources), Very Short Answer, Short Answer, and Long Answer questions, most with internal choices. Sample 1-Mark Question (MCQ): The Mesopotamian city of Uruk was primarily located along the banks of which river system?
Step-wise Marking Scheme:
• Correct Answer (1 Mark): The Tigris and Euphrates river system. • Reasoning: Early Mesopotamian cities such as Uruk developed in the fertile plains between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, which supported irrigation-based agriculture and urban growth.
