CBSE Class 11 Political Science - Sample Paper Blueprint & Marking Schemes Review section-wise weightage, model papers, constitution and political theory problems, and step-wise mark allocations for the 2026-27 session. 📋 CBSE Class 11 Political Science Exam Pattern & Marks Distribution (2026-27):
• Total Marks: 100 (Theory: 80 + Project Work: 20).
• Time Allowed: 3 Hours. • Structure: Two NCERT books with equal weightage — "Indian Constitution at Work" (40 marks: why a constitution, rights, election, executive, legislature, judiciary, federalism, local government) and "Political Theory" (40 marks: political theory intro, freedom, equality, social justice, rights, citizenship, nationalism, secularism, peace, development). • No Map Work: Unlike History or Geography, Political Science does not include map-based questions. • Question Mix: MCQs, source-based and case-based questions, Very Short Answer, Short Answer, and Long Answer questions, most with internal choices. Sample 1-Mark Question (MCQ): Who was the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Indian Constituent Assembly?
Step-wise Marking Scheme:
• Correct Answer (1 Mark): Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. • Reasoning: Dr. Ambedkar chaired the Drafting Committee, which was responsible for preparing the draft text of the Indian Constitution for the Constituent Assembly's consideration. Sample 5-Mark Question (Long Answer - Political Theory): Distinguish between "negative liberty" and "positive liberty." Explain with examples how the state's role differs under each conception of freedom.
Marking Allocation:
1. Correctly defining negative liberty — freedom from external restraint/interference, with an example (2 Marks). 2. Correctly defining positive liberty — freedom to develop one's capabilities, requiring enabling state action, with an example (2 Marks). 3. Explaining the differing role of the state under each conception (1 Mark). 📌 Evaluation Criteria followed by Board Examiners in Political Science:
• Original Expression Valued: CBSE marking schemes favour answers written in the student's own words over reproduced textbook paragraphs — key points expressed clearly score as well as, or better than, verbatim recall.
• Point-wise Marking with Examples: Concepts like liberty, equality, or federalism are marked point by point, and a relevant real-world or constitutional example often earns the final mark. • Case-Based Questions: Source-based and case-based questions expect the answer to directly engage with the given passage or scenario, not just restate the general concept. |
