CBSE Class 9 Mathematics - Sample Paper Blueprint & Marking Schemes Review section-wise weightage, model papers, Ganita Manjari-based problems, and step-wise mark allocations for the 2026-27 session. 📋 CBSE Class 9 Mathematics Exam Pattern & Marks Distribution (2026-27):
• Total Marks: 100 (Theory: 80 + Internal Assessment: 20).
• New Prescribed Textbook: For 2026-27, NCERT has introduced Ganita Manjari — Part I (8 chapters, under NCF-SE 2023), replacing the earlier 12-chapter Mathematics textbook, with a more conceptual and activity-based approach. • Highest-Weightage Unit: Geometry carries 25 of the 80 theory marks. • Unit-wise Theory Split: Number System (7), Algebra — polynomials, sequences & progressions, algebraic identities, linear equations in two variables (20), Coordinate Geometry (4), Geometry — Euclid's geometry, lines & angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, circles (25), Mensuration (14), Statistics & Probability, now clubbed together (10). • Internal Assessment (20 marks): Pen Paper Test + Multiple Assessment (10), Lab Practical (5), Portfolio (5). • Note: Asterisk-marked "enrichment" questions in Ganita Manjari are explicitly excluded from formal assessment. Sample 1-Mark Question (MCQ): Which of the following is an irrational number?
Step-wise Marking Scheme:
• Correct Answer (1 Mark): √3. • Reasoning: √3 cannot be expressed as a ratio p/q of two integers (q ≠ 0), and its decimal expansion is non-terminating and non-repeating, which makes it irrational. Sample 5-Mark Question (Long Answer - Algebra): Using a suitable algebraic identity, find the value of (98)³ without direct multiplication. Show all steps clearly.
Marking Allocation:
1. Correctly expressing 98 as (100 − 2) and identifying the correct identity, (a − b)³ = a³ − 3a²b + 3ab² − b³ (1 Mark). 2. Correct substitution of a = 100 and b = 2 into the identity (2 Marks). 3. Correct step-by-step simplification and final answer — 941192 (2 Marks). 📌 Evaluation Criteria followed by Examiners in Mathematics:
• Step Marking: Every intermediate correct step earns marks independently, even if the final answer is wrong.
• No Negative Marking, But No Working = No Marks: A correct final answer with no visible working can lose most of the marks for that question. • Geometry Proofs Need Every Step: Theorem-based questions expect a correctly labelled figure and every logical step stated — skipping steps, even with the correct conclusion, costs marks. |
