Read the given passage and answer the questions that follow: (12 marks)
Write the answers in your own words unless the question specifically asks you to quote from the passage
1 Hari Prasad was the most sought-after man in the marketplace. A palmist supposed to be the best in the area, he lived-off people's hands as he was believed to possess superior qualities of prediction.
2 All he had to do was stare at the faint little criss-crossing lines on someone's palm for a little while and the client would listen shocked, as the palmist laid his life history exposed before him.
3 The client would return home somewhat dazed by what he thought were the amazing powers of the astrologer. Few realised that Hari Prasad had actually said what was applicable to everyone in general. Later it might strike some that they had been taken for a ride. But by then it was too late, they had already paid him his fees.
4 It was hard to believe Hari Prasad could lie. He had the look of someone very serious and authoritative. So people still queued up to have their palms examined and hear a few surprisingly accurate observations about their life - to be followed by a whole lot of nonsense. This was courtesy a few discreet enquiries made during the palm-reading session.
5 One day, in the middle of one such session, the neighbour's boy came running to Hari Prasad's shop: "Chacha (uncle), come home immediately. Someone broke into your house and stole all the valuables," he said.
6 At this, Hari Prasad leapt to his feet and began to run very fast. As he ran home, everyone in the vicinity watched him with surprise.
7 "Hey, he should not be running so fast," said someone, "surely he knew this was going to happen."
8 "How on earth could he have known that?" asked another person. "Do you think the thief served him a special notice that he was going to be robbed?"
9 "No," said the first man. "But how could Hari Prasad, the man who foretells everyone else's fortune, not have foreseen his own? And that too, a theft in his own house?"

2.The ship looked just like a big house. There were furnished rooms, a swimming pool, a room for indoor games and a library. Yet, there was plenty of space to run around.
3The next morning the passengers were having breakfast when the loudspeaker shouted noisily and then the captain’s voice came loud and clear. “Friends, we have just received a message that a storm is about to come in the Indian Ocean. I request all of you to keep calm. Do not panic. Those who feel seasickness may please stay in their cabins. Thank you.”
4.There was panic everywhere. I could not understand why all the elders were so upset. I remembered the several sea adventures I had read about. This made my imagination run wild. I said, “Wouldn’t it be fun if the storm broke when we have lunch? Then the tables, with all the food on them, would run away from us. And the chairs, with us sitting on them, would be a merry-go-round.” Everyone round the table stared at me in horror.
5.The storm did not break but in the evening a strong wind started blowing. The ship was rocking and rolling to the music of the wind. Huge waves were hitting against it. Even though the deck was slippery, I was running around. That’s when I noticed Uncle bent over the railings. I ran up to him, thinking, he too, was enjoying the experience. “Good evening, Uncle, isn’t it lovely?” I asked him.
6.However, he wasn’t well at all. He was vomiting over the rails and looked rather blue about the mouth. I felt sorry for him. “Can I be of any help? Shall I call the doctor?” I asked him.
