Q 1. What do you mean by Universal Adult Franchise?
Ans. When every citizen of the country has the right to vote, it is known as Universal Adult Franchise.
 
Q 2. Explain two stages of election process in India.
Ans. 1. Selection of candidates- Different political parties select their candidates to contest elections.
2. Polling and counting of votes- After polling the votes are counted.
 
Q 3. Which government is known as representative government?
Ans. In democracy, citizen elect their representatives to run government. This government is called representative government.
 
Q 4. What is the importance of representation in democracy?
Ans. Due to the high population, every citizen cannot directly run the government. So people govern through their representatives.
 
Q 5. Who is authorised to cast vote in India?
Ans. One who is above 18 years of age, is authorised to cast his/her vote in India.
 
Q 6. What is the difference between two-party system and multi-party system?
Ans. When there are only two political parties in any country, this is called two-party system. England and America have two-party system.
But when there are so many political parties, it is called multi-party system. There is multi-party system in India.

Q 7. What is the importance of representative system?
Ans. In a large country like India, people can not directly participate in the state governance. People’s representatives participate directly. All the policies are framed by the representatives of the people.
 
Q 8. What is a secret ballot paper? What is its importance?
Ans. At the time of election, while casting a vote, no second person comes to know that in whose favour it is casted. This is called secret ballot system. This system is very important for the freedom of an individual.
 
Q 9. Write a short note on the importance of opposition party in democracy.
Ans. Democracy cannot be successful without the presence of a strong opposition party. It points out to the shortcomings and bad policies of the ruling party. The opposition check the government becoming irresponsible and dictatorial.
 
Q 10. Write the functions of a political party?
Ans. 1. To select candidates to contest elections.
2. To conduct election campaign.
3. To form government or function as opposition party.

Ans. 1. To point out the shortcomings and bad policies of the government.
