Subject Concerns over online teaching

Sir/Ma’am
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to express my concern regarding online teaching.
With the Covid-19 Pandemic affecting all of the world’s different areas at large, the one to take the most hit is the education sector. The pandemic forced to fasten the acceptance of online teaching methods to sustain learning. In the need to continue effective education, online teaching- learning was accepted by all schools. However, the acceptance of online teaching came with its various limitations.
Online teaching- learning from school promoted learning from school but promoted isolation. As a result, children make almost no friends. They are stuck at home for all day and suffer from stress, anxiety and even obesity. Thus, the condition of the future of the country is deteriorating.
Hence, it is time for us to look for a fine balance between the two worlds of online learning and innocence of childhood. To do so, we can take certain steps in the form of physical activities, family time and constructive leisure time.
I hope that all of us understand the need to maintain this balance and make sure that our young minds enjoy their innocent childhood to the fullest and not sit in front of their systems all day long.

Thanking you

Subject Concern over deforestation for commercial complexes

Sir/Madam
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to draw attention to the rampant cutting down of trees in our city to accommodate large commercial complexes. This destruction of greenery is leading to loss of biodiversity, rising temperatures and deteriorating air quality, making our city less liveable.
To address this issue, authorities must prioritise green infrastructure and sustainable urban planning. Spaces for trees and parks should be integrated into commercial projects. Additionally, public awareness campaigns, media messages, and community programmes should be used to educate people about the importance of preserving greenery. Schools and organisations can also initiate tree-planting drives.
A balance between development and nature is crucial for a healthier environment. I urge the authorities to take immediate action to protect our city’s green cover.

Subject Importance of mental health awareness among teenagers

Sir/Madam
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to highlight the growing need for mental health awareness among teenagers. With academic pressure, social media influence, and peer expectations, many teenagers struggle with stress, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Cases of cyberbullying and Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) further add to their emotional distress.
Early intervention is crucial in preventing long-term mental health issues. Schools, parents, and counsellors must work together to create a supportive environment. Schools should integrate mental health awareness programmes, while parents should encourage open conversations. Regular counselling sessions and peer support groups can also help.
I urge authorities to implement awareness campaigns and provide accessible mental health resources in schools. Addressing these concerns will ensure a healthier future for our youth.

Subject The lack of civic responsibility among school children

Sir/Ma’am
Through the medium of this letter, I wish to bring the attention of the common masses towards the matter of growing concern in our community, the lack of civic responsibility among school children. It saddens me to witness the disregard for sanitation and cleanliness, as evident in the rampant littering on our roads and public spaces.
Educational institutions play a pivotal role in shaping the values and behaviours of young individuals. It is imperative that they prioritise the installation of civic responsibility among students. By incorporating lessons on environmental stewardship, waste management, and community involvement into the curriculum, schools can nurture a sense of ownership and accountability towards maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
Moreover, fostering partnerships between schools, local authorities and community organisations can provide opportunities for students to actively participate in clean-up drives and awareness campaigns, thus instilling lifelong habits of responsible citizenship.
It is my hope that through concerted efforts, we can empower our youth to become proactive agents of positive change in our society.

Subject Surge in short, budgeted vacations and home-stay

Sir/Ma’am
Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the masses towards the matter of growing trend of short, budgeted vacations. As each and every individual is running in a rat race, maintaining a healthy work-life balance is of prime importance. This new trend offers individuals a chance to explore new destinations to de-stress and have a glimpse of different lifestyles lived by individuals in remote areas.
The most significant outcome of this trend is the rise of home stays as a preferred accommodation option rather than hotels or resorts. People start to seek for more affordable yet authentic travel experiences and what could be a better option than a home stay?
By providing home-cooked meals, home stays allow travellers to savour the taste of the local cuisines in a cosy ambience thereby establishing meaningful connections with the locals. The travellers also get a chance to get insights of the various cultural activities or festivals. Thus, home stays not only act as a source of income to the locals but also contribute to the economic growth of their communities. Moreover, they are able to promote their rich cultural heritage on a bigger scale.
In conclusion, the surge of budgeted vacations and home stays represents a positive shift towards a more balanced and enriching approach to travel and also contributes to the prosperity of the communities they visit.

Subject Misuse and poor maintenance of public park in our colony

Sir/Ma’am
Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw attention of the concerned authorities towards the problem of misuse and poor maintenance of the public park of our colony.
The park in our area has fallen into a miserable state due to its misuse and poor maintenance. The gardeners don’t come regularly and do not take care of the plants properly. As a result, many trees and plants are either overgrown or decaying. The walking track is broken and there are many open pits. Even the boundary walls are broken and there are no security guards, making it an easy pathway for thieves and other bad influences. There are no lights or dustbins which makes the park more of a dumping ground for all. Therefore, senior citizens and children have nowhere to go for relaxing and playing.
Hence, it is time that the authorities look into the matter and work towards hiring responsible gardeners. They should also repair the tracks, cover the open potholes, build a proper boundary wall, install solar lights and put benches and dustbins so that the lost glory of the park can be renewed.
I hope that this issue reaches the concerned authorities and they will take necessary actions as soon as possible.

Subject Concerns over increasing pollution and waste during tourist season

Sir/Ma’am
Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to express my concern over the increasing pollution and waste during the tourist season. The realisation of this concern dawned on me during my visit to Shimla with my family. It was disheartening to see tourists throwing empty bottles and cans all over the place, spoiling the natural beauty of pristine hill station.
Tourism, today, has become an important source of income for many places, but it also has many negative impacts on the environment. Waste and pollution have far-reaching impacts on the ecological balance of the region as it adversely affects all flora and fauna, communities and environment of the region. Hence, ecological conservation of the place is a need of the hour. We can create a clean and healthy vacation destinations by following some easy steps and measures. First, we should encourage eco-friendly travel by promoting public transport, cycling, and walking. Second, we should create less waste by carrying our own reusable water bottles and avoiding single-use plastics. Last, we should dispose of garbage properly by using designated bins.
I believe that sustainable travel is the key to preserving the beauty of tourist destinations. We must ensure that tourism does not come at the cost of environmental degradation. I urge the concerned authorities to take immediate action towards ecological conservation and create a safe and healthy environment for tourists and locals.

Subject The need of financial literacy for youth

Sir/Ma’am
Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention towards the need of financial literacy for youth.
In the age where money is king, it is crucial for all of us to effectively be able to manage money. Gone are the days when managing money was in the hands of an adult. With digital payment becoming a fad, even children today have to become responsible for how they use their money they get as pocket money. Hence, it is not surprising that financial literacy is increasingly recognised as a crucial 21st-century skill for young individuals.
Financial literacy is the knowledge and skills needed to manage personal finances effectively and efficiently. It includes understanding how to budget, save, invest, and manage credit and debt. Being financially literate means having the ability to make informed decisions about financial matters and navigating the complex world of personal finance. For students, even without any earnings, learning financial basics is invaluable. It includes finding income sources, utilising skills for earnings, and understanding how to multiply even modest incomes. Early knowledge about management and multiplication of money can pave the way for financial freedom. It helps in making intelligent financial choices and shapes a financially wise mindset, promoting sound decision-making. Further, financially literate individuals are more likely to avoid debt traps and manage debt responsibly, resulting in lower levels of debt and interest payments. Overall, financial literacy is a valuable life skill that can lead to greater financial stability, security and success.
Hence, parents, guardians and all educational institutes must talk and discuss finances to make a child financially literate.

Subject Increasing focus on Corporate Social Responsibility

Sir/Ma’am
Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of all towards the increasing trend of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) amongst private conglomerates. I had recently been a part of large project that made me realise that organisations today are looking beyond company profits.
In the present day world, we are witnessing the growing relationship of companies with non-profit organisations. The result is the new buzzword called Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). CSR refers to all those initiatives through which organisations focus on bettering their society without any selfish interest.
Many large MNC’s today, are taking up environmental initiatives, doing charity work and participating in volunteer projects. They are not only changing to a more sustainable way of working but have also been introducing more ethical labour practices. Their actions play a large part in poverty alleviation, conservation of environment and growth of the society. While these organisations do not expect any profit, they are indirectly profited. As their works come into limelight, their brand value increases and they receive positive public attention. Consequently, they gain increased sales.
However, there are still some organisations that ignore CSR. The need of the hour is to make CSR a norm. To do so, we must spread awareness regarding the benefits of CSR. Laws mandating companies to include CSR along with introduction of some privileges to companies that show some positive change in society can urge more and more organisations to take up their CSR.
I hope that readers are urged to follow CSR in their work places so our world is a better place to live in.

Thanking you

Subject The need of educational counsellors in schools

Sir/Ma’am
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of all towards the need of educational counsellors in every school.
In this modern and competitive time, there is a cut throat competition among youngsters to secure better marks. After passing the secondary school examination, a candidate has to make a very difficult choice from a number of streams available to him or her for further studies. Students are often misguided by others who are ready to cheat the unsuspecting students and their parents. There is no valid mechanism to assess the suitability of candidates for a particular stream. Students opt for subjects under the influence of peer or parental pressure without considering their own preferences and capabilities. As a result, many students, later, regret their decisions, which by then has already affected their career and psyche.
The ministry of HRD should be serious towards the career of the students. A special post of educational counselor should be created in every school so that the students and parents can discuss their issues and concerns, and clarify their doubts regarding further education. This will certainly give them some relief from the unnecessary worries.
Hoping for favourable consideration for the welfare of students.

Subject Regarding Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024

Sir/Ma’am
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of all towards the new act passed by the government of India regarding ‘unfair means’ used in public examinations.
Time and again, we have heard about the news of leaking of question papers and bypassing security measures in public examinations by the students. The issue has become critical and relevant in today’s competitive world where every student is fighting for their better future. The problem involves the nuisance created around exams by paper leaking, surpassing the authorities, tempering with admit cards and merit lists, issuing fake documents and marksheets and deliberate violation of security measures set up by the conducting authority. The act recently passed will allow the government to keep a check on any unfair means being used in the examinations by students, or any other person responsible. The act sets up a severe punishment structure for the offenders which involves imprisonment and financial liability. This ensures the integrity and fairness in these examinations.
Nations was outraged by the unfair means that happened in the national level examinations, a series of scams and frauds undermining public trust in the educational process was uncovered. Exams were being conducted without a proper framework. The new act will uphold the value of merit by reassuring the students that their hard work will be fruitful and rewarding. Successful implementation of the act will require collaboration between authorities and exam conducting bodies. Public awareness and continuous improvement will be required to maintain the standards.
I hope that the act is properly implemented considering the favourable welfare of the students.

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to inform everyone about the various advantages of using the public transport.
Everybody knows that the increase in the number of private vehicles on the road is the major cause of pollution. Furthermore, vehicles mean more congestion and traffic jams. Everybody tries to move first and fast which not only increases the chance of accidents but also causes a lot of noise pollution because people continuously blow horn during the waiting moments.
An easy and quick solution of the problem is that we make use of the rapidly increasing public transport. It will prove more beneficial as it will save our energy, money and time and we can use that energy in doing other tasks efficiently.
Therefore, I hope that people realise the depth of this issue and I urge them to try and use public transport as much as they can.

Subject Public protests and demonstrations cause inconvenience

Sir/Ma’am
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to bring the attention of the concerned authorities towards the inconvenience caused by public protests and demonstrations.
Recently, I myself had to go through a hassle because of these protests and demonstrations. A few days back, I was going to take the medical entrance test for my post-graduation, but was delayed at the border due to a public protest by farmers. They damaged many cars and held a chakka jam making many students like me, office goers and other people wait for a long time. With the level of protests, I panicked as I thought I wouldn’t be able to give my exam. However, after great difficulty, I reached the examination hall just when the test started. This was only possible because I had started one hour earlier than normal.
Everybody is aware that public demonstrations causes a lot of disturbance to the daily routine of the common man. Emergency services are also affected adversely. Such demonstrations and disturbances by people on highways, cause a great loss of time and opportunity for many and should be actively discouraged by the authorities. They should take suitable preventive action so that traffic flows smoothly.
Hoping that such situations will be avoided in the future with immediate action by the concerned authorities.
