Draw the position time graph for two objects having zero relative velocity.

A bullet of mass 0.04 kg, moving with a speed of 90 ms-1, enters a heavy wooden block and is stopped after a distance of 60 cm. What is the average resistive force exerted by the block on the bullet?

Why does a cricket player lower his hands while taking the catch?

What is the work done by centripetal force in moving a body through half cycle on the circular path of radius 35 m?

A boat is likely to capsize if the persons in the boat stand up. Why?

A spring balance is attached to the ceiling of a lift. A man hangs a bag, having a mass of 5 kg, on the spring. What will be the reading of the spring balance if:

(i) Lift moves downwards with an acceleration of 5 m/s2.

(ii) It moves upwards with an acceleration of 5 m/s2.

Show that the total mechanical energy of a body falling freely under gravity is conserved.

Define centripetal acceleration. Derive an expression for centripetal acceleration of an object in uniform circular motion.

Define elastic and inelastic collisions. Show that in case of one dimensional elastic collision of two bodies, the relative velocity of separation after collision is equal to the relative velocity of approach before the collision.
