People from nearby villages used to visit the fair. They used to travel with their families on bullock carts. The wealthy farmers would come proudly seated on tractors, began my grandmother.
“The mela ground was prepared and decorated with ribbons and colourful stalls. The major attraction was the dangerous bike ride. The rider was blindfolded before his adventurous ride. It was very exciting. There were toy shops that solid birds, animals and human figures made of clay … beautifully painted with vegetable colours. “
What did you buy Granny?” I asked. Oh! My absolute favourite were the water balloons. The balloon had a rubber cord attached to it. I would hold it as if it was the most precious thing in the world. Nowadays, you call them yo-yos.”
