 Magnetic Materials

Magnets exert a force on other magnetic materials.

A magnet has a North pole (N) and a South pole (S).

A North and a south pole (opposite poles) attract each other.

The same poles (two North poles or two South poles) repel each other.

Magnet attracts some materials like Iron and Steel.

Other materials are not attracted by magnet like Aluminum, Brass, Copper and etc….

Types of magnet

  1. Bar Magnet – It is strong.
  2. Horseshoe Magnet – It is weak magnet.
  3. U –shop magnet
  4. Cylindrical magnet
Mixing Materials and Solution

Mixture- means two or more materials mixed up together

Solution- is a mixture of solute and solvent, when the solute dissolves in the solvant.

Separating mixture

There are different ways to separate mixtures.

  1. By sieving-Separating the big bits from the small bits.
  2. By filtering- Separating solid bits from liquid.
  3. By evaporation-Separatingsoluble solids from water.

Separating a mixture of salt, sand and water

 

There are three steps to separate salt, sand and water.

Step 1- Filter

Step 2- evaporate

Step 3- condense

Reversible and Irreversible changes

A reversible change is when a material changes back to how it was before.

An Irreversible change is when a material turns in to a completely new and different material. The new material cannot be changed back in to what it was before.
