(a) When a Swimmer pushes the water backwards.
(b) When a cricket and tennis ball are thrown with the same force, the tennis ball moves with greater acceleration.
Answer:
1. (a) Newton's Third Law of Motion applies here: when the swimmer pushes water backwards, the water exerts an equal and opposite reaction force forward on the swimmer, propelling him ahead.
2. (b) Newton's Second Law of Motion applies here: acceleration is directly proportional to force and inversely proportional to mass, so the lighter tennis ball gains greater acceleration than the heavier cricket ball for the same force.
Teacher's Note:
a) Identify action-reaction situations as the Third Law and force-mass-acceleration situations as the Second Law.
b) Always justify with the law's statement, not just naming it.

34. Differentiate between Scoliosis and Lordosis deformities. Suggest corrective measures for Knock-knee and Flat foot deformities. [5 Marks]
Answer:
1. Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine, forming an "S" or "C" shape, with uneven shoulders, hips or rib cage and the body leaning to one side.
2. Lordosis is an excessive inward curvature of the spine, mostly in the lumbar region, giving a "swayback" posture with the abdomen pushed forward and buttocks sticking out.
3. For flat foot, walking, standing or jumping on toes and heels in all four directions, and skipping on toes, helps develop the foot arch.
4. Practising asanas like Adhomukhasana and Vajrasana regularly also helps correct flat foot by strengthening the arch.
5. For knock-knee, horse riding, keeping a pillow between the knees and squeezing it, and regularly performing Padmasana and Gomukhasana help strengthen leg muscles and correct the deformity.
Teacher's Note:
a) Clearly separate the appearance and location of curvature for scoliosis and lordosis.
b) Give specific corrective exercises separately for knock-knee and flat foot for full marks.
35. Raghav plans to conduct strength and flexibility tests specifically for the lower body, targeting his grandfather's friend. Explain in detail the procedure and scoring system to administer these tests. [5 Marks]
Answer:
1. Chair Stand Test (lower body strength): Place an armless chair against a wall for stability; the subject sits with back straight, arms crossed, feet flat on the floor shoulder-width apart.
2. On the command "Go", the subject stands up completely and returns to sitting, counted as one stand; the subject is asked to complete as many stands as possible in 30 seconds.
3. Scoring: The maximum number of complete stands in 30 seconds is recorded as the score; a half-completed stand at time-up is counted as a full stand.
4. Chair Sit and Reach Test (lower body flexibility): The subject sits on a stabilised chair with one leg extended forward, heel on the floor, and reaches forward with both hands to touch the toes of the extended foot, holding the position for 2 seconds.
5. Scoring: The distance between the fingertip and the toe is measured; a plus sign is recorded if fingers cross the toes, and a minus sign if the subject cannot reach the toes.
Teacher's Note:
a) Give the correct name of each test before explaining its procedure.
b) Do not forget to explain the scoring method separately for each test, as marks are allotted for it.
36. What do you understand by motivation ? Which motivational techniques are used to improve the performance of the players ? Explain in detail. [5 Marks]
Answer:
1. Motivation is the driving force that spurs a person to action; it initiates, guides and maintains behaviour over time, and can also be defined as the direction and intensity of effort.
2. Expectancy theory: People are more motivated for tasks where the probability of success is higher compared to failure.
3. Guided discovery method: Athletes stay highly motivated when allowed to find solutions to problems themselves rather than being told exactly what to do.
4. Social support strategy: A coach can create a favourable environment by reducing societal pressure and gaining support from peers and family, since participation is influenced by social perception.
5. Incentives and rewards: Awards and rewards act as an effective external motivating force, helping athletes maintain consistency and continuity in sports.
Teacher's Note:
a) Give a clear definition of motivation with a keyword like "driving force" before listing techniques.
b) Explain each technique with one line on how it improves performance, not just name it.
37. What is speed ? Explain the methods to develop speed in detail. [5 Marks]
Answer:
1. Speed is the capacity of an individual to perform successive movements of the same pattern at a fast rate, or the ability to move the body or any body part as fast as possible in minimum time.
2. Acceleration run: This method develops speed while attaining maximum velocity from a static starting position; the athlete runs a fixed distance, trying to gain full momentum as early as possible.
3. These acceleration runs are repeated with sufficient rest between them, and the number of repetitions is set according to the athlete's age, capacity and fitness level.
4. Pace run: This method involves running a set distance at a uniform speed, usually used for races of 800 metres and above, where speed should not be too high at the start but maintained steadily throughout.
5. For pace run training, the athlete runs at a maximum steady speed for a distance 10-20% more than the actual racing distance, with complete recovery between repetitions.
Teacher's Note:
a) Define speed clearly first, then explain each method with its purpose and procedure.
b) Distinguish acceleration run (from static start) from pace run (uniform speed over longer distance) to avoid mixing them up.
