Question. Write a letter to the Editor-in-chief, Times of India, G.T. Road, New Delhi, raising concern about the spread of mosquito borne diseases in your area. Suggest preventive measures for the diseases.
Answer: 121, Sarojini Nagar,
Delhi.
29th December, 20XX
Editor-in-chief,
The Times of India,
G.T. Road,
New Delhi.
Subject : Regarding the spread of chikungunya and dengue and prevention thereof.
Sir,
This is to bring to your kind notice, the rising number of deaths being caused due to chikungunya and dengue. With an outbreak of dengue and chikungunya in many parts of India, we’re losing hundreds of lives each day. The deadly outbreaks with such frightening regularity show that nothing much has been done by the health authorities to ensure the safety of the common man. The government, in the name of exterminating mosquito-larvae, adopts some routine measures but nothing comes of them. The negligence on the part of health official’s is unpardonable. As a concerned citizen, I would like to suggest that regular camps should be organised to warn people about the symptoms and causes of this disease. All the potholes on the roads must be filled to avoid accumulation of water. All other sources where waste-water is accumulated and a breeding ground has been created for the mosquitoes should be immediately checked and taken care of. The news channels should display ways to eradicate this disease. People should be advised to wear full covered clothes.
I hope my letter will find a space in your esteemed newspaper and the authorities will look into the matter and take immediate steps for every citizen of this country. It is very important and should definitely not be a subject of ignorance or negligence on the part of the authorities.
Thanking you,
Yours truly

Question. Write a letter to the Editor-in-chief, Delhi Times, New Delhi, appealing for a Secondary School in your locality. In your letter, write about the importance of education and how will a school benefit the society.
Answer: 114, Ram Nagar,
Delhi.

Editor-in-chief,
Delhi Times,
M.G. Road,
New Delhi.
Subject : Regarding a request to open secondary school in our locality.
Sir,
This is to bring to your kind attention that our colony Ram Nagar does not have a secondary school in our vicinity. The students of class XI and above have to walk 3-4 km everyday to reach a secondary school which creates a lot of problems.
Not only does the commute take a lot of time, but we also have to face the harsh weather conditions everyday. During monsoons, it becomes almost impossible for us to reach the school on time. The rains spoil our uniforms and we have to face severe punishments for the same in the school. Apart from that, every student walking to the school loses his energy by the time he reaches it and thus, remains lost, physically tired and lazy throughout the day. This decreases our concentration levels and we bear heavy losses in terms of our academics. Students coming from middle class and lower class backgrounds are not even able to afford public transport each day and thus often miss school. They are hence deprived of education which is the fundamental right of every child.
I hope my letter will find a space in your esteemed newspaper. Through this letter, I want to reach out to the concerned authorities and request them to open a secondary school in our vicinity. The government has been strongly and repeatedly insisted on facilitating education to every child in India. Congruous to the same, I hope our situation will be taken into consideration and will be acted upon immediately.
Thanking you,
Yours truly

Question. Write a letter to the Editor-in-chief, Times of India, New Delhi, raising concern on the situation of girls in the society. Include the following points in your letter :

● Female health and hygiene

Subject : Regarding the situation of girls in our society.
Sir,
This letter is with regard to the new scheme of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ which has been recently launched by the government. Under this scheme, compulsory education for girls is being promoted and publicised a long with a stringent ban on female infanticide. Though the very objective of this scheme is wonderful and acclamation worthy, yet the ground reality after the implementation of this scheme is something else altogether.
In the recent past, I have come across various articles on the same initiative which centre around how important a girl child is. These articles sound beautiful when read for a brighter tomorrow, but the minutes we come out of this bubble, we see girls facing prejudices in almost every field of life. In spite of this scheme, millions of girls are still loitering around uneducated. Almost each day, about hundreds of girls are being killed inside the womb; and this is not just the story of villages and remote parts of the country. In metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai, this evil practice continues without interruption. This condition makes me question the validity of this scheme. Just yesterday, I came across a group of girls from the outskirts of the town washing utensils and clothes, cleaning and gardening in houses to earn bread and butter for their families. This also becomes a case of child labour for all of them looked younger than 14 years.
The government should take strict steps against this. They should punish the people who employ kids as young as 7-8 years to work in their homes. The government should also plan on implementing new schemes to attract them towards school and run awareness programme for their parents to make them understand how important education is for their daughter. We live in a country where we worship girls as goddesses, it is high time, we start treating them like humans in reality.
I hope my letter will awake the concerned authorities and they shall take strict steps in the same direction.
Thanking you,
Yours truly

● Waste management
● Alternatives to plastic

Subject : Suggesting certain steps to create awareness of cleanliness.
Sir,
This is to bring to your kind attention that recently, a cleanliness week was organised in our vicinity. All the schools within the region actively participated in this camp and a series of competitions related to cleanliness were held during the same. Our school was adjudged the overall champion and was awarded the “Most Active School” in this camp. We took a lot of effective steps to maintain cleanliness and spread awareness about the same. We made a team of students from class IX-XII and personally went from door-to-door requesting people to segregate their domestic waste into biodegradable, non biodegradable and plastic waste. We distributed red, blue and green dustbins as a part of this awareness initiative. We installed the same in our school and encouraged the students to divide their wastes according to these categories. A rally was also organised against the use of plastic tetra packs, polythene bags where we were joined by a large number of civilians. Thereafter, we distributed jute and cloth bags and convinced every participant of the rally to only use the same in future. We also discussed about the use of eco-friendly paper in schools and offices and implemented the same in our school. Our school has now become the first school in the area to use only recycled paper notebooks. We encouraged students to come to school using bicycles and fuel-free bikes to reduce the amount of carbon and smoke, in addition to this, we planted a large number of trees around our area and pledged to use eco-friendly products only.
Through your newspaper, I would like to reach out to other schools as well and encourage them to take similar initiatives in their schools. I hope these steps will be of certain help to the concerned authorities as well and they shall encourage competitions and awareness camps like these in future as well.
Thanking you,

Question. Write a letter to the Editor-in-chief, Hindustan Times, New Delhi, regarding rampant chain-snatching incidents in your area.
Answer: School Captain,
RWA Anand Niketan,
Agra.

The Editor,
The Hindustan Times,
New Delhi.
Subject : Regarding the rampant chain-snatching incidents
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my deep concern over the nuisance of increasing crime rate in our locality, RWA Anand Niketan, and the police’s lackadaisical approach to the gravity of the situation. The incidents of picketing of pockets, purse and jewellery have been on the increase in our area. Residents live in a constant fear of these anti social elements in the entire locality. No resident dares to travel even during the broad daylight. Most of these crimes are being carried out by the teenagers. These crimes are the fallout of their unregulated and unmonitored overexposure to the internet and their skewed upbringing. It really pains me to see young teenagers being caught by police.
Being aware citizens, it is our moral responsibility to prevent these youngsters from going astray. The schools, the parents and the government will have to come together to solve this problem. I hope the concerned authorities will look into the matter and take immediate measures to nip this evil in the bud. I am hopeful that you will help me in sensitising the concerned authorities, people and organisations by publishing this letter in your reputed daily.
Thanking you,
Yours truly

Question. Write a letter to the Editor-in-chief, Times of India, New Delhi, raising concern on the rising cases of obesity among young children. You may include the following points :
● Health and obesity
● Importance of exercise
● Avoid junk food

Subject : Rising cases of obesity among young children.
Sir,
This is to bring to your kind attention that there has been an upsurge in the cases of obesity among young children. Obesity has become a common problem among people of all age groups because of the increased intake of processed food and our inactive lifestyle these days. People tarnish their own health by eating what we now call as junk food. The term “Junk Food” in itself talks volumes about the nutrients it holds. Continuous and regular intake of this junk leads to obesity, which brings with it a number of other health disorders. Obese children find it hard to do physical exercises which makes them inert and inactive both physically and mentally. They say that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body but without a healthy body, even the most active and conscious mind can be infected with diseases.
Problems like lethargy, high blood pressure, cholesterol, anaemia and many such detrimental problems regularly affect obese children. Obesity also increases the chances of cardiac disorders among them. We should encourage intake of only organic and healthy food to avoid such conditions. The concerned authorities must try to limit the local food vendors on the street for it is one of the most important areas where children accumulate in large numbers to relish this junk after school. Parents must be taught to limit the intake of their children to fruits and healthy home made food. Every school must necessarily have a nutritionist to take care of the nutrient content of the food the children have everyday. Periodic checks can help them overcome obesity for if this was not initiated today, their future will be in grave danger.
I hope this letter finds a space in your newspaper and is able to reach the concerned authorities.
Thanking you,
Yours truly

Subject : Attacks on old people.
Sir,
Through the columns of your reputed newspaper, I show my deep concern and draw the attention of the govern ment towards the growing feeling of fear and insecurity among people due to frequent attacks on old people living alone.
The recent attacks on old people clearly indicate lapses on our part. In addition to this, social media and different reports are creating disharmony instead of doing something constructive. The old people are not safe in their own homes. These attacks have taken away their peace and tranquility. Many old people have lost their lives. This shatters the faith of people in the government.
In order to combat this menace, we should make concerted efforts. Those who are caught and found guilty, should be taught a lesson.
I hope the authorities will be more cautious and initiate stern steps to encounter the enemies of humanity.
Thanking you,
Yours truly,

Subject: : Importance of adhering to COVID-19 precautions
Sir,
I would like to draw the attention of the authorities and the people through the esteemed column of your newspaper about the importance of adhering to COVID-19 precautions in today’s current tumultuous situation. Recently, the Government has declared a complete lockdown in the State and recommended that the movement of people should be restricted to the purchase of essential items.
However, today people were moving about without observing the requisite distance and without masks. Moreover, jaywalkers on the road were jostling people. People in my locality were happily jogging and taking their walks in the garden without realizing the harm that they were in and the risk that they put others in while other localities have enabled measures to keep such activities in check and arranged for essential services to be delivered right at the gate. Therefore, there is a safe amount of distance and precautions in place to prevent the contamination and spread of the virus. We have also received the news that due to such negligent activities, in a locality two lanes away, a family has caught the virus leading to a complete closure of the building premises.
I believe that we should take a stand and adopt healthy practices before we succumb to the virus itself. It is necessary for the locality to encourage people to step out only when necessary and devise curbs to prevent them from leaving their houses. Online exercise classes can be facilitated for those needing to exercise while masks and sanitizers should be distributed to encourage people to adopt healthy measures. The local authorities should also strictly issue such warnings to the locality such that the concerned society leaders enforce such safety measures.
Thank you
Yours sincerely,

Sir,
It was with great expectations that I bought LAVA-4 bill no. 4567 dated 16 March, 20XX from Mobizone, Pocket 4, Main Market, Sarita Vihar, as a gift for my daughter on her birthday. However, it turned out to be a disappointment. The phone has several problems and when I contacted Mobizone for redressal they stated that the manufacturing and other defects can be redressed by the company only. The phone has the following problems:
- It heats up rapidly while charging.
- The battery gets discharged within an hour, even if it gets charged after a great deal of efforts.
- The phone hangs up frequently.
I sincerely hope that the phone will be replaced at the earliest as it is quite evident that there is some manufacturing defect.
Waiting for a positive reply from your end.
