I. Read the passage and answer the following questions:
Antarctica is the southernmost continent of our planet. Antarctica is rarely thought of as a desert because it is covered in ice. It is the driest place on the earth. It is the largest desert on earth as it gets very little rainfall. It is also the coldest place on earth, too cold for rain to form or fall.
The continent has two seasons – summer and winter. In summer, that part of the Earth (south pole) faces the sun all the time and so it is always day in Antarctica. In winter, it never faces the sun and so it is always night in Antarctica during winter.
There are no permanent human residents in Antarctica though many scientists stay there for months to study the ice. Antarctica has no trees or bushes. The only plants that can live in such a cold place are moss and algae. From the animal kingdom, seals and penguins are native to this crystal continent.
