All About JEE Advanced

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an engineering entrance exam carried out at various Indian engineering colleges. This exam consists of two separate examinations-JEE Main and JEE Advanced. 


If we talk about JEE Advanced, this exam is conducted every year by these seven IITs (Indian institutes of technology) IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee (IISC) Bangalore and IIT Guwahati. In all 23 IT institutions including the Indian School of Mines (ISM), Bachelor, Master, and Dual Degree (10+ 2) programs are admitted based on the ranks of candidates in JEE Advanced 2020.


JEE advanced 2020

JEE Advanced 2020 will be conducted in India and overseas on May 17, 2020. Under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB), IIT Delhi will conduct JEE Advanced 2020. Candidates for JEE Advanced will now be qualified for 2.5 Lacks instead of 2.4 Lacks because the number of students qualifying for the exam has risen by 10,000. 

JEE Advanced will also be conducted for the first time in the US. An Exam Center will be set up in the San Francisco area to serve this task.

The entrance exam is held as a computer-based exam in two shifts (9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.) The exam has two mandatory papers authorized by the JEE Advanced authorities, In the second week of May, JEE Advanced admit card 2020 will be available and the results of JEE Advanced 2020 will be tentatively released on June 8.

The Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) will take place on June 12, 2020, with June 16 announcing the results for the same. Admissions are provided by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority, commonly known as JoSAA, by counseling.

Nationality – students who are submitting the JEE advanced 2020 must are the citizen of India, JEE advanced exam 2020 is eligible for the participation of students who are citizens of India, OCIS (overseas citizen of India) PIO (person of Indian origin) and foreign nations. 

Total number of attempts – An applicant can attempt JEE advanced in two consecutive years for a maximum of two times

For Foreign nationals, Eligibility criteria in JEE advanced 2020

Those candidates who are foreign nationals have the authority to set a different set of eligibility criteria. According to the details provided in the official document, candidates are treated as foreign nationals if they are not Indian citizens or their parents are not Indian and do not belong to either category of OCI / PIO.

Some of the other details that candidates should be mindful of are that foreign nationals do not have the benefit of reserving seats in any division as Govt guides, of India. 

  • In the form of a citizenship certificate/passport, identity proof of both the parents and the candidate is required.
  • In addressing the availability of seats, foreign nationals in each course are allocated up to 10 percent of the total number of seats.

Candidate who qualifies for the JEE advanced 2020 exam must fulfill at least one of the following requirements for admission to the programs of bachelor, integrated master’s program and dual graduate programs at IITs:

  • In Class XII (or equivalent) board examination, applicants must have received a total of 75 percent composite points. The combined marks for SC, ST and PWD scores should be at least 65% 
  • Candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board exam should be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates.

The registration process of JEE advanced 2020

JEE advanced application form is only available in online mode from the second week of May. Candidates can fill in the form on the JEE advance’s official website. Candidates are required to register and fill out the detailed application form that includes personal, academic, parent and contact information. Candidates would need to use their roll number and password JEE Main 2020 to sign in. The applicants had to submit some additional information that had to be received.

Uploading Documentation -  

Second, candidates would need to search and upload the required documents according to the authorities ' requirements. The documents to upload are 10th standard certificate/birth certificate, 12th standard checkmark sheet and (if applicable) category certificate. 

Payment process  - 

Online (net banking/credit card/debit card) or offline (cash using SBI option) applicants would have to pay the registration fee. The free would be different depending on the candidate’s category

Admit card details of JEE advanced 2020

JEE advanced 2020's admit card will tentatively be launched in online mode in the second week of May. The JEE Advanced 2020 admission card can only be obtained by enrolled candidates. It is an important document to be produced at the examination center.

The inability to produce the admit card would result in the applicant being excluded from completing the test. The admit card will include details about the test center and timings.

AAT (architecture aptitude test)

Only at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee is the B.arch program available. PASS must be included in the Architecture Aptitude Test in order to apply for the entry of B.Arch program applicants. In AAT 2020, only those candidates who appeared in JEE Advanced 2020 will be able to appear.

The admission process of JEE advanced 2020 

The admission process for JEE Advanced 2020 includes the following steps- 

  • Filling out the online application form will be the first step towards participating in the JEE Advanced 2020 test. Candidates can register for JEE Advanced 2020 even if they do not choose to register for JEE Main 2020 while they are registering. JEE advanced form cannot be deleted once the applicant has finished the registration process.
  • After the JEE Advanced registration process is over, candidates can access their JEE Advanced admit card from this engineering entrance exam's official online registration site. Candidates can choose from a list of exam centers and the address of the exam center at the time of JEE 2020 Advanced registration. The same will be shown on their certificate of entry.
  • At the time of examination, participants will be asked to produce a copy of their downloaded admission card. The applicants will hold the initial JEE advanced admission card until all the exam admission formalities have been completed.
  • On June 8, 2020, the results of JEE Advanced 2020 will be announced. The outcome of the test contains the ranking of an applicant in the review and certification rank. On the official IIT Delhi website, candidates will be able to check their JEE Advanced 2020 scores. IIT Delhi will conduct JEE Advanced under the guidance of JAB in 2020 and will also be responsible for the release of the results of the examinations.


Admission process 

The notification of admission states that the applicants will be shortlisted in bachelor's, combined master's and dual degree programs on offer at the 23 IITs based on their performance in the entrance exam. It is also expressed that, "JAB 2020 decisions will be definitive in all matters concerning JEE Advanced 2020 and IIT and ISM entry."

A few improvements in the JEE Advanced admission criteria were adopted by the IIT Council in 2016. The primary adjustment here was that, in order to qualify for IIT and ISM admissions, candidates had to follow any of the two criteria listed below: 

  • The applicant would fall within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board exam.
  • In the Class XII (or equivalent) board examination, the candidate should have secured 75% (for GEN or OBC-NCL) or 70% (SC, ST or PwD) of aggregate marks.
