5 Potentiometer wire, PQ of 1m length is connected to a standard cell E₁. Another cell, E₂ of e.m.f. 1.02 V is connected as shown in the circuit diagram with a resistance ‘r’ and a switch, S. When switch, S open, null position is obtained at a distance of 51 cm from P. Calculate (i) potential gradient of the potentiometer wire and (ii) e.m.f. of the cell E₁. (iii) When switch S is closed, will null point move towards P or towards Q? Give reason for your answer.

6 A long straight wire of a circular cross-section of radius ‘a’ carries a steady current ‘I’. The current is uniformly distributed across the cross-section. Apply Ampere’s circuital law to calculate the magnetic field at a point ‘r’ in the region for r < a.
