I. Answer the following questions.

Q1. What is a computer ?

Ans. Computer is a machine that can do different types of work. It can also store a lot of information.

Q2. What do you call the information, which you enter into the computer ?

Ans. The information which we enter into the computer is known as input. We can enter words, numbers,pictures or sound as input.

Q1. What is software ?name its types.

Ans. A group of instructions given to the computer is called software. Its types are : -

1. System software 2. Application software

Q2. What is a storage device ? Give examples.

Ans. The devices which are used for storing data are called storage devices .

Examples :- Hard disk , CD.

a)KEYBOARD:----- Keyboard is a input device. It helps us to enter information into the computer . A standard computer keyboard has 104 keys.

b) NUMBER KEYS:--- The number keys are used for typing numbers . They are present above the top row of the alphabet keys. All number keys have special characters or symbols printed on the top.

c) NUMERIC KEYPAD :-- The number keys are also present on the right side on the right side of the keyboard . They are collectively called the numeric keypad.

d)WIRELESS ROLLUP KEYBOARD :--- This keyboard is flexible and water resistant . It can be rolled up and carried along.

Question. What do you know about Alphabet keys ? What are they used for?
Answer: There are 26 alphabetic keys from A to Z . They are not present in the alphabetical order they are used to type words, sentences or paragraphs.

Question. What is the use of Number keys? Where are they present ?
Answer: The number keys are used for typing numbers . They are present above the Top row of the alphabet keys and also on the right side of the keyboard.

Question. What do you know about function keys ?
Answer: Function keys are used to perform special tasks . They are present on the top most Row of the keyboard , labeled as F1 , F2 ,----------------,F12.

Question. What is the function of caps lock key?
Answer: The caps lock key is used for typing alphabets in capital.

Question. What is the use of shift key? How many shift keys are on a keyboard ?
Answer: The shift key is used to type the special symbols present on the keys and to type Alphabet in capital . There are two shift keys on a keyboard .

Question. Write down the Navigation keys and their functions .Also draw them.
Answer: 1- ARROW KEYS :-- These keys are used to move the cursor ( up ,down , left ,right) On the screen .

2- HOME :--- Moves the cursor to the beginning of a line .

3-END:-- Moves the cursor to the end of a line.

4- Ctrl + Home :---- moves the cursor to the top of a document.

5-Ctrl + End :--- Moves the cursor to the bottom of a document.

6- Page Up:--- Moves the cursor on page up by one screen.

7-Page Down :--- Moves the cursor page down by one screen.

8- Delete :-- Erases the character after the cursor or the selected text.

9- Insert :- When insert mode is on , we can insert the text at the cursor position When it is off , text that we type replaces existing characters.
