Q1.  Read the following passage carefully and answer the given questions:-

The oak tree starts life as a little acorn, which is the fruit or nut of the adult oak tree, in autumn, the acorns drop to the ground where some of them are eaten by animals and birds. Others are collected and buried by squirrels and jays as a store of food for the bleak winter months. The animals bury the acorns at the right depth in the soil, and as long as they are away from the shadow of the adult tree, they grow on their own. The warmth and the moisture in the earth help the acorn to geminate. It grows a tiny shoot which eventually becomes the trunk of the tree and then divides to make leafy branches. Most oaks are deciduous. This means that they grow leaves every spring. The tree bursts into life, and its branches sprout hundreds of buds that open up into shiny green leaves.

b) What do you know about the condition of Nelson Mandela as a child?

Ans: Mother managed three huts..used different purposes…no furniture..sleep on mats…sit on ground…never lonely…placed frilled with babies of children and relatives.

c) Why did the balloon seller wait near the house? What does this tell you about his character?

Ans: The balloon seller waited near the house to give a balloon to the child, who takes it from him every evening. This shows that he was a very kind hearted and an honest person. He knew that the child would cry on not getting the balloon so he decided to wait there for the family to return.

d) In the poem “Asking Questions” What might have happened if the poet answers his teacher with ‘In a minute’ or ‘Wait and see’?
