The disturbing news reached the ruler of Jodhpur State, and he immediately stopped the massacre. By now the entire Bisnoi community was up in arms. They met the Maharaja and told him that since they were not allowed to pursue their faith and religion, they would rather leave the state. The Maharaja was quick to realize the seriousness of the situation. He apologized for the horrible mistake committed by his officer and issued a royal decree, engraved on a copper plate, prohibiting the cutting of trees in any Bisnoi village in Jodhpur State. Hunting of all wild animals was also prohibited. Who are Bisnois? This is a sect that was founded in 1542 by Janmewarji. He formulated twenty nine principles for the protection of herbivores and trees. That is how the community got its name Bisnoi, as ‘bis’ is twenty and ‘noi’ is nine. For centuries, the Bisnois have remained the traditional protectors of Khejri trees and black buck.

 Ans. As a child Nelson Mandela was mostly left to himself. He spent most of his free time playing and fighting in the veld with other boys of the village. He played with the clay toys made by him. Nature was his playground. He used to sit on the flat stones and slide down. He also used to have stick fights with his friends.

b) In the story’ The Balloon Seller’ when did the children realize their mistake?

Ans. In the story “The balloon Seller’ when a car stopped near the gate, a young couple with a child got off. The child let off his mother’s hand and ran towards the balloon seller. This is when the children realized their mistake.

c) Why did Nelson Mandela prefer making his own bed? What does this show about him?

Ans. Nelson preferred to make his own bed because he believed in doing the work on his own and did not want to be dependent on anyone. This quality of shows that he was hardworking.

d) Where did Amit and his friends meet in the evening? What did the children plan to do during their summer vacation?

Amit and his friends met at their favourite place, the park. The children planned to keep themselves busy by solving some mysteries and becoming detectives.

Ans. According to the poet the owl has friendly presence because it does not harm anyone
