अध्यापिका: प्रियच्छात्राः! वदन्तु, किमपि कार्यं करणीयम् अस्ति चेत् आदौ किम् आवश्यकम्?
आचार्ये! विचिन्त्य कार्यकरणम्।
उचितविधिना कार्यकरणम्।
पूर्णमनसा कार्यकरणम्।
अध्यापिका: सर्वे उचितमेव वदन्ति। अधुना विचारयन्तु, यदि मनः एव मलिनं स्यात्, उद्देश्यम् एव अनुचितं स्यात् तर्हि किमपि कार्यं सम्यक् कथं भवेत्?
एवं चेत् तस्य कार्यस्य फलम् अपि दूषितम् एव स्यात्।
अध्यापिका: अत एव अस्माभिः सर्वाणि कार्याणि पवित्रेण मनसा करणीयानि। एतदेव शिक्षयति प्रस्तुतः पाठः 'मनःपूतं समाचरेत्' इति।
आचार्ये! अस्मिन् पाठे विविधेभ्यः ग्रन्थेभ्यः सुभाषितानि सङ्कलितानि दृश्यन्ते। किम् एतानि सुभाषितानि वर्तमानसमये अपि उपयोगीनि सन्ति?
अध्यापिका: भवन्तः स्वयमेव चिन्तयन्तु।
अहं वदामि आचार्ये! एतानि सुभाषितानि न केवलं पठनाय अपितु जीवने आचरणाय सन्ति।
अध्यापिका: सम्यक् उक्तम्। आयान्तु, वयं सुभाषितानि पठामः जीवने च आचरामः।
शिक्षक की टिप्पणी
a) पाठ के नाम का अर्थ है: मन से पवित्र (शुद्ध) करके ही आचरण करना चाहिए।
b) छात्रों ने कार्य करने की तीन बातें बताईं: विचिन्त्य, उचितविधिना और पूर्णमनसा; अध्यापिका इनमें चौथी बात, पवित्र मन, जोड़ती हैं।
c) महिला आचार्य को सम्बोधन में 'आचार्ये!' कहा गया है।
दृष्टिपूतं न्यसेत् पादं वस्त्रपूतं जलं पिबेत्।
सत्यपूतां वदेत् वाचं मनः पूतं समाचरेत्॥ १ ॥

धृतिः क्षमा दमोऽस्तेयं शौचमिन्द्रियनिग्रहः।
धीर्विद्या सत्यमक्रोधो दशकं धर्मलक्षणम्॥ २ ॥

यद्यदाचरति श्रेष्ठः तत्तदेवेतरो जनः।
स यत्प्रमाणं कुरुते लोकस्तदनुवर्तते॥ ३ ॥

अभ्यासेन क्रियाः सर्वाः अभ्यासात् सकलाः कलाः।
अभ्यासाद् ध्यानमौनादि किमभ्यासस्य दुष्करम्॥ ४ ॥
(सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागारः)
प्रारभ्यते न खलु विघ्नभयेन नीचैः प्रारभ्य विघ्नविहता विरमन्ति मध्याः।
विघ्नैः पुनः पुनरपि प्रतिहन्यमानाः प्रारभ्य चोत्तमजनाः न परित्यजन्ति॥ ५ ॥

उद्योगिनं पुरुषसिंहमुपैति लक्ष्मीः दैवेन देयमिति कापुरुषा वदन्ति।
दैवं निहत्य कुरु पौरुषमात्मशक्त्या यत्ने कृते यदि न सिध्यति कोऽत्र दोषः॥ ६ ॥

a) हर श्लोक के नीचे उसका स्रोत दिया है; जैसे श्लोक १ और २ मनुस्मृति से, श्लोक ३ भगवद्गीता से और श्लोक ५ नीतिशतक से हैं।
b) श्लोक २ में धर्म के दस लक्षण गिनिए: धृति, क्षमा, दम, अस्तेय, शौच, इन्द्रियनिग्रह, धी, विद्या, सत्य और अक्रोध।
