SUMMARY

• The type of money used in a particular country is called its currency. The currency of India is Indian rupees.
• The symbol for rupees is ‘ ₹ ’ and 'p' for paise; 1 rupee = 100 paise.
• While writing an amount, we use a decimal point (.) to separate rupees and paise.
• To convert an amount written in figures into paise, we remove the symbol ₹ and the decimal point (.).
• There are always two digits to the right of the decimal point which stand for paise.
• The number written on the left side of the decimal point denotes rupees and the number on the
right side of the decimal point denotes paise.
• Addition and Subtraction of Money:
Step 1 Express the given amounts in figures.
Step 2 Arrange the amounts in columns such that the decimal points remain in one column.
Step 3 Add or subtract as ordinary numbers and put the decimal in decimal column.
