Chapter 2: Hide and Seek
Let Us Do
- Look at the picture and answer the following:
- Which game are the children playing? _________
- Who is looking from the top?___________________
- In Scene 1, if Rani faces towards the hut, will she be able to see who all are hiding near the hut? ___________________
Teacher's Note
When you look at a scene from different positions, you see different things. In Scene 1, think about which children Rani can actually see if she faces the hut. Some children may be hidden behind trees or the hut itself, so she cannot see everyone even if they are nearby. You can check this by standing in different spots in your classroom and seeing what you can view from each position.
In Scene 4, can Mini see all the children playing the game? Discuss.
Bholu is amazed to see how this tree looks from the top.

Jagat has clicked a picture of a tree from the front.
- Mini, Bholu, and Rani draw the same brick. Why are their drawings of the same brick different? Discuss.
[Figure: Mini's Drawing, Bholu's Drawing, Rani's Drawing -, See in your textbook]
Whose drawing shows the following views?
View of the Brick drawing Name of the child The top view The front view The side view
Note for Teachers
Children may come up with different answers. Also, discuss with them the kinds of views present in the pictures, for example, top view, side view, and front view.
Teacher's Note
Objects look different depending on where you are standing. If you look at a brick from above, you see one shape; from the front, you see another shape; from the side, you see a third shape. These are called the top view, front view, and side view. When answering questions about which child drew which view, look carefully at what shape each drawing shows and imagine which direction the person was looking from.
- Look at the pictures and name the objects. Also write which view of the object is given.

- Jagat and Rani have made different drawings of the same objects. Match the views with the objects.
[Figure: Three boxes showing different views (Box 1: Side view, Front view; Box 2: Top view, Front view; Box 3: Front view, Top view) and three 3D objects (Pyramid, Cube, Rectangular box) -, See in your textbook]
Look around you! Try to make drawings of objects, such as chairs, tables, pencils, erasers, birthday cap, and bottle from different views.
Boxy Buildings
Jagat and Mini are playing. They are making different buildings using empty matchboxes and making their drawings from different views.
[Figure: Matchbox building with three views - Front view, Back view, Top view -, See in your textbook]
Now, you also collect empty matchboxes or any other empty boxes to create different buildings and draw their top, side, and front views. You can challenge your friends by asking them to match your drawing with the right building.
Cat Finds Jagat
The next day, the five friends go to school feeling excited as it is an activity day. Jagat's pet cat follows him to school. The cat sits on the window and tries to find Jagat.
[Figure: Classroom scene with cat looking through window -, See in your textbook]
Jagat's cat sees him sitting on the third desk in the first row.
- Mark Jagat's position in the picture.
- Describe the position of the blue bag _____________________.
- What do you see on the middle desk of the second row? _____________________.
- Where is the notebook kept - the first desk in the second row or the middle desk in the third row?
- Draw an apple on the third desk of the second row.
Key Points
- Objects appear different when viewed from different positions: top view, front view, and side view all show the same object differently.
- To describe where something is located in a picture or classroom, you can use row and column positions, such as "third desk in the first row."
- When you stand in different spots, you can see different things because some objects may be hidden behind other objects from your viewpoint.
- Drawings of three-dimensional objects on paper show only the view from one direction, so you need multiple drawings to understand what the whole object looks like.
- You can describe positions by combining words like top, middle, bottom with left, right, and the number of the row or column.
