CASE STUDY QUESTION

Q1. Raksha Bandhan, is a popular annual rite, or ceremony, which is celebrated in South Asia, and in other parts of the world significantly influenced by Hindu culture. On this day, sisters of all ages tie a talisman, or amulet, called the rakhi, around the wrists of their brothers, symbolically protecting them, receiving a gift in return, and traditionally investing the brothers with a share of the responsibility of their potential care..

Observe the 2 designs of Rakhi
Design A: Rakhi A is made with silver wire in the form of a circle with diameter 28mm. The wire used for making 4 diameters which divide the circle into 8 equal parts.
Design B: Rakhi B is made of two colours - Gold and silver. Outer part is made with Gold. The circumference of silver part is 44mm and the gold part is 3mm wide everywhere.

Refer to Design A

(a). Find the total length of silver wire required
Answer : 200 mm

(b) Find the area of each sector of the Rakhi
Answer : 77 mm2

Refer to Design B

(c) Find the circumference of outer part (golden)
Answer : 62.86 mm

Q. If the perimeter of a semi-circular protractor is 66 cm, find the diameter of the protractor (Take ฯ€ = 22/7).
Answer : Let the radius of the protractor be r cm. Then,
Perimeter = 66 cm
= 1/2(2 ฯ€ r) = 66
[( Perimeter of semi circle 1/2(2 ฯ€ r)]
 ฯ€r = 66
=22/7 ร— r = 66
r = 21 cm
Diameter of the protractor = 2r = (2 ร— 21) cm
= 42 cm

Q. The circumference of a circle exceeds the diameter by 16.8 cm. Find the radius of the circle.
Answer : Let the radius of the circle be r cm. Then,
Diameter = 2r cm and Circumference = 2ฯ€ r cm
It is given that the circumference exceeds the diameter by 16.8 cm
Circumference = Diameter + 16.8
2ฯ€r = 2r + 16.8
2 ร— 22/7 ร— r = 2r + 16.8 [ ฯ€=22/7]
44r = 14r + 16.8 ร— 7
=44r โ€“ 14r = 117.6
30 r = 117.6
= r = 117.6/30
= 3.92
Hence, radius = 3.92 cm
