4. Give reasons. 

(i) The animals in polar region have thick fur and thick skin. 

Ans. Polar regions experience extremely low temperatures. Therefore, the animals of polar regions are naturally adapted to protect themselves from extreme cold by having thick fur and thick skin. 

(ii) Tropical deciduous trees shed their leaves in the dry season. 

Ans. Plants lose water from their leaves through the process of transpiration. As tropical deciduous trees are found in regions, which do not experience rainfall throughout the year, they shed their leaves in the dry season to conserve water. 

(iii) The type and thickness of vegetation changes from place to place. 

Ans. The growth of vegetation depends upon many factors like temperature, moisture, height of land, slope, and thickness of soil. The type and thickness of vegetation varies from place to place because of variation in these factors.
