1. People in metro cities face the problem of stray animals. Write an article on how we can tackle this problem.
Show answer
Answer: Living with Stray Animals
By Astha, Class X
Stray dogs and cattle on the streets of our cities are a growing problem. Some people feed and shelter them, while others treat them cruelly, and the animals themselves suffer from hunger, disease and accidents. They also cause road accidents and spread rabies.
We can solve this problem with care and planning. Municipal bodies should set up shelters and run sterilisation and vaccination drives. Citizens should adopt animals from shelters instead of buying pets, and feed strays in fixed places. Garbage should be properly disposed of so that animals are not drawn to it. Cruelty must be punished under the law, and schools should teach children to be kind to animals.
If government, NGOs and citizens work together, humans and animals can share the city safely.
Teacher's Note: Give the article a title and byline, an introduction to the problem, causes, solutions and a conclusion.
2. Write an article on 'Cricket is a religion in our country'.
Show answer
Answer: Cricket: A Religion in Our Country
By Ashwin, Class X
In India, cricket is much more than a game. When India plays, streets empty, offices and schools go quiet around the television, and people pray for a win. Players like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are worshipped like gods, and the IPL has made the sport a huge festival.
Cricket unites people of all religions, languages and regions, and gives hope and pride to a nation. Children play it in every lane and field. But this love has a darker side: it has pushed other sports aside, and betting and match-fixing have damaged its name.
Cricket is truly our religion, but we should also support other sports and keep the spirit of fair play.

3. A dog found a piece of meat. He reached the bank of the river...
Show answer
Answer: The Greedy Dog
One day a dog found a piece of meat. Delighted, he took it in his mouth and ran away to eat it in peace. He reached the bank of a river and crossed it by a narrow bridge. As he looked down, he saw another dog in the water with a bigger piece of meat. He did not realise that it was his own reflection. Greedy to get the second piece too, he barked at the dog in the water. As soon as he opened his mouth, his piece fell into the river and was swept away. The dog stood hungry and sorry.
Moral: Greed brings loss.
Teacher's Note: Use the past tense, a title and a moral, and keep to 150-200 words.
4. Last week I went to market on bicycle to buy some books. I placed my bicycle outside the shop...
Show answer
Answer: A Lesson in Honesty
Last week I went to the market on my bicycle to buy some books. I placed my bicycle outside the shop and locked it. When I came out after half an hour, my bicycle was missing. I looked around everywhere, and the shopkeeper said he had seen a boy take it. I was very upset and nearly in tears. Just then a policeman came by, and I told him everything. He sent a message on his wireless, and in a short time a boy was caught with my bicycle. He was a poor boy who had stolen it to sell. The policeman advised him, and gave him a warning. I got back my bicycle, and I learnt always to lock it in a safe place and keep my eyes open.

The Editor,
The Hindustan Times,
New Delhi
Subject: Sale of alcohol to underage people
Sir,
Through your newspaper I want to draw attention to the shameless sale of liquor to underage teenagers in our locality. Several shops give alcohol to school students without asking for age proof, in spite of the law. This is harming their health and studies and pushing them towards crime.
I request the authorities to conduct surprise checks, cancel the licences of the offenders and run awareness campaigns for parents and schools. I hope you will publish my letter.
Yours faithfully,
Arun

Subject: Neglect of the public park
Sir,
The public park, the heart of our colony, where children play, elders walk and women do yoga, has now become a haunt of stray animals and anti-social elements. The park is full of garbage and broken benches, and the lights do not work, so people are afraid to visit it after dusk.
Through your newspaper I request the civic authorities to clean the park, repair the lights, fence the area, appoint a guard and arrange police patrolling. I hope the matter will get prompt attention.
Yours faithfully,
Rohan Mehta
