Introduction of Japanese Language

As you are aware, the Central CBSE Board of Secondary Education offers 29 languages besides Hindi and English at Secondary and Senior Secondary levels. Out of these 09 are foreign languages. As a follow up of an MOU signed between the Govemment of lndia and the Govemment of Japan, the CBSE Board proposes to introduce Japanese language in the school curriculum for its affiliated schools from the academic year 2006-07. Initially the language will be introduced at Class VI and it will be extended to higher classes progressively. The course materials are being developed by experts and they would be available to schools before the commencement of the 2006-2007 academic session.

Teacher training will also be provided by the Japan Foundation in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy to India wherever it is found necessary.

Schools that are interested in introducing the teaching of Japanese language at Class VI from the year 2006­07 may kindly write to the undersigned giving their willingness for the same. The letter of willingness should reach the undersigned by the 15th December, 2005 to enable the CBSE Board to prooess the applications further.
