Class 12 Tiger King Summary in English

Tiger King NCERT depicts the journey of the powerful King of Pratibandpuram. The story begins with a prediction of the death of Maharaj Jilani Jung Jung Bahadur by a royal torture teller during the King's birth. But as everyone knows, death is one of the certain things that one cannot resist; one who is born must die. Therefore, the Maharaj did not fear this demise. But the wise King asked the fortune teller to disclose the reason for his death. The royal fortune teller, in a stunned manner, explained that the King was born in the hour of Bull. As the Bull and the Tiger are sole rivals, a tiger will cause his death. Years passed and turned the King into a mighty sole who loved Tiger hunting. The King started experiencing joy in tiger hunting. When the chief astrologer got this news, he speculated the King's death on his 100th tiger kill. His addiction to hunting feared no bound, and in a span of 10years, he slowly and steadily wiped out all the 70 tigers in his kingdom; this led to the extinction of tigers in

Pratibandpuram. The joy of hunting cast such a spell on him that it forced him to marry a state princess, which was densely populated by tigers. And whenever he visited his father-in-law's court, he managed to hunt 6 to 7 of the fierce beast. Soon, this hobby of the King turned into practice; he elevated his kills to 99 tigers within a short time. But since then, the Maharaj could not get even a glimpse of any tiger. A tide of frustration and anger blew the King, and he could not bear it anymore. He started making the rigorous decision to increase land tax and suspend some of his workers out of anger.

After a rigorous search, the Dewan got his hands on a tiger of 'People's Park in Madras' and dragged it to the kingdom's forest. The King stepped into the forest for the Tiger hunt with a group of efficient hunters. Soon, Maharaja got his eyes on the tiger and fired a bullet at it. The Maharaj was so delighted that he failed to notice that the bullet hit on the tiger's shoulder, and he collapsed and was fainted. When Maharaj's men discovered this, they feared the King's wrath, and therefore, they killed it and presented the dead body to the Maharaj.

A few days later, the Maharaj attended a birthday party for his three-year-old son. He gifted his son a wooden tiger statue out of his love for tigers, but the statue was unskillfully designed with a rough surface. Thus, a wooden silver piece from the monument pierced with the Maharaj's hand. This leads to widespread infection in this body. And soon, he took his last breath during surgery. Thus the iconical hundredth tiger, though being a wooden one, took this revenge by taking the mighty King's life and declared the fortune-teller's prediction correct.
