سورج ڈوبا ہُوا اندھیرا
چڑیاں لینے لگیں بسیرا
دن کا غائب ہوا اُجالا
تاریکی نے پردہ ڈالا
جلنے لگے دیے گھر گھر میں
گِرجا مسجد اور مندر میں
چَرخِ بَریں پر چمکے تارے
بے روغن ہیں روشن سارے

جنگل سے گھر آئے گَوالے
ریوڑ اَپنا اَپنا سنبھالے
جا پہنچے مزدور گھروں میں
خوش خوش ہیں بیوی بچّوں میں
دن میں کب آرام کیا ہے
خون پسینہ ایک کیا ہے
نیند میں غافل ہو گئے بچّے
سو گئے لوری سُنتے سُنتے

استاد کا نوٹ
الف) یہ نظم منشی جوالا پرشاد برق لکھنوی کی ہے؛ اس میں شام ہونے کا منظر بیان ہوا ہے۔
ب) ہر شعر کے دونوں مصرعے ہم قافیہ ہیں، جیسے اندھیرا/بسیرا، اُجالا/ڈالا، تارے/سارے۔
ج) 'خون پسینہ ایک کرنا' یعنی بہت محنت کرنا۔

الف) 'چرخِ بریں' میں 'چرخ' یعنی آسمان اور 'بریں' یعنی بلند؛ دونوں مل کر اونچا آسمان۔
ب) 'بے روغن' یعنی بغیر تیل کے؛ شاعر کہتا ہے کہ تارے بغیر تیل کے روشن ہیں۔
ج) 'گوالے' گائے بھینس پالنے والے ہیں اور 'ریوڑ' بھیڑ بکریوں کا جھنڈ ہے۔
