उगता सूरज जिधर सामने
उधर खड़े हो मुँह करके तुम
ठीक सामने पूरब होता
और पीठ पीछे है पश्चिम
बायीं और दिशा उत्तर की
दायीं और तुम्हारे दक्षिण
चार दिशाएँ होती हैं यों
पूरब पश्चिम उत्तर दक्षिणा

इस कविता में चारों दिशाएँ बताई गई हैं। जब आप सूरज के उगने की ओर मुँह करते हैं, तो सामने पूरब, पीठ के पीछे पश्चिम, बाईं ओर उत्तर और दाईं ओर दक्षिण होता है। इस तरीके को याद रखने से दिशाएँ समझना आसान हो जाता है।
