GSEB Class 7 Sanskrit परिशिष्टम् Solutions

Here, the first three are sacred chants (mantras). In the fourth verse, a greeting is offered to Mother Parvati, and in the fifth verse, a greeting is offered to the teacher (Guru). A mantra signifies a word, phrase, or sentence through which we can achieve our wishes by chanting it.

1. ॐ हरये नमः Om bow to God Shri Vishnu!

The first chant is for Lord Shri Vishnu. Lord Vishnu is the deity who sustains and nourishes everything. (In this sacred chant, 'Om' is also a mantra, formed from three sounds: 'A', 'U', and 'M' (Om). These three sounds stand for Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh.)

2. ॐ मानवे नम: Om bow to God the Sun!

The sun is considered the very spirit of the world. It provides life for all beings and is a 'Friend' to everyone. By honoring the Sun God, who supports plants and animals, we receive brightness, prosperity, and power.

3. ॐ द्यौः शान्तिः अन्तरिक्षं शान्तिः, पृथिवी शान्तिः, आपः शान्तिरोषधयः शान्तिर्वनस्पतयः शान्तिर्विश्वेदेवाः शान्तिब्रह्म शान्तिः सर्व शान्तिः शान्तिरेव शान्तिः, सा मा शान्तिरेधि। ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ।।

Om, O heavenly realm, grant us calm. O sky, give us calm. O earth, water, plants, trees, and all the universe's deities, grant us calm. All of these are calm, only calm, and allow me to find only that calm. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti. This is the prayer for calm (शान्तिमन्त्र). May all aspects of the universe bring currents of calm and make me a truly peaceful follower. In this manner, a deep feeling for peace is conveyed in this prayer.

4. सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गगल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थसाधिके। शरण्ये त्र्यम्बके गौरि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

O companion of the three-eyed Lord Shiva, who gives good fortune, grants blessings, fulfills all goals, and safeguards those who surrender, I bow to you! In this verse, reverence is shown to Mother Parvati, who brings goodness to everyone.

5. अज्ञानतिमिरान्धस्य ज्ञानाज्ञ्जनशलाकया। चक्षुरुन्मीलितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः।। (येन अज्ञानतिमिरान्धस्य ज्ञानाज्ञ्जनशलाकया चक्षुः उन्मीलितम् तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ।।)

I offer respect to the teacher (Shri Gurudev) who has opened my inner eye of wisdom. He used a delicate tool, like a fine rod, to apply the balm of knowledge. This helped cure my sight, which was clouded by not knowing. This verse shows honor to the teacher who shares understanding.
