Questions
Passage 1: Service Dogs
For people who cannot move easily, highly trained dogs called service dogs can pick up dropped keys, open and close drawers, fetch prepared meals, help a person in and out of a bathtub, dial the emergency number, push and pull wheelchairs, help operate a car or van, and pull off gloves, shoes, socks and jackets. Other dogs help people who suffer seizures (sudden attacks of illness) and need regular medication. Above all, these dogs give companionship, play and unconditional love to the people they assist.
It is about thirty years since the first assistance dog was placed with a person. Only in recent years, with the rising independence movement among disabled people, has the idea begun to spread widely.
Most service dogs are trained to work with people who use wheelchairs. Other helping dogs include hearing dogs, which alert their owners to sounds such as doorbells, phones, cooking timers, alarm clocks and smoke alarms, and seizure dogs, which carry medicines in their packs and are trained to dial the emergency number on large-keyed phones.

Passage 2: Stars and Planets
The real way to tell a star from a planet is to see whether it twinkles. Stars twinkle; planets do not. Planets shine only because they receive light from the sun. It is merely sunshine on the planets or the moon that we see.
Stars are like the sun. They shine on their own because they are very hot and burning. In fact, the sun itself is a star. It looks bigger than other stars only because it is much nearer to us. We see it as a great ball of fire in the sky.
Our earth belongs to the family of the sun. We think the earth is very big, and compared with our tiny selves it truly is. It takes weeks and months by fast train or ship to go from one part of the earth to another. Yet it is like a speck of dust hanging in the air. The sun is millions of miles away and the other stars are even further. That is why they look so small to us.
