You may end like this: The graph provides valuable insights into how population changes with time.
Answer:
Birth and Death Rates
The graph showing the birth and death rates of a country gives us a clear picture of population growth over time. The graph shows birth and death rates from 1901 till 2101. Since 1901, the birth rate has remained higher than the death rate, and is expected to do so until about 2041. The birth rate peaked in 1961 at around 65,000. From 1961, the birth rate has fluctuated multiple times. It is expected to decline in the coming years, reaching approximately 43,000 by 2101. On the other hand, the death rate stood at around 10,000 in 1901 and has since increased steadily. It is expected to rise strikingly from 2021 before levelling off at approximately 60,000 between 2061 and 2081. The graph indicates a slight decline in deaths by the year 2101. The graph shows the huge gap between the birth rate and death rate from 1961 to 2001. However, this gap is expected to reduce and reverse in the latter half of the 21st century. The graph provides valuable insights into how population changes with time.
Writing Tips:
1. Describe each line separately (peak, low, crossover) with approximate figures.
2. Highlight the key point where the two lines cross (around 2041).
The Air Travel Returns for Second Pandemic Thanksgiving
Change in the number of Americans travelling for the Thanksgiving holiday in 2020 and 2022
| Year | Overall | Car travel | Air travel | Other travel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2020 | 16% | 11% | 50% | 81% |
| 2022 | 5% | 3% | 9% | 31% |
Answer:
The Effect of Covid on Americans' Travel
Given the topsy-turvy times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the overall figure for Americans travelling home for Thanksgiving fell to 5% in 2022, in comparison to 16% in 2020. There has been a sharp decline in the use of other modes of travel in the year 2022 as well, due to safety reasons. Despite the pandemic, the figure for air travel in 2020 was still 50 percent. Moreover, Americans were more likely to feel safe and comfortable driving during the pandemic than taking public transportation. By far, car travel was the least affected in the years 2020 and 2022. The fear of COVID-19 continues to linger, even after two years. Therefore, it is advised to follow proper hygiene protocols and wear masks in crowded settings.
Writing Tips:
1. Compare the same category across the two years (2020 vs 2022).
2. Use comparison words: whereas, in contrast, fell from ... to ....
You may begin like this: The provided pie chart illustrates a family's monthly expenses.
You may end like this: We can conclude that this family truly makes sound financial decisions.
Answer:
Analysis of Monthly Expenditure
The provided pie chart illustrates a family's monthly expenses. Their monthly expenses are made up of 30% for food and 25% for education. On these two things, the family spends the most money. The next highest category is miscellaneous things (20%), which includes money spent on both necessities and luxuries like clothing, technology, travel, etc. Rent and health care account for 10% each. Last but not least, 5% of their monthly budget goes on transport. The data as a whole demonstrates that the family keeps a decent balance in its spending. They spend a considerable amount on education after food. Spending 25% on it demonstrates how much value the family places on it. We can conclude that this family truly makes sound financial decisions.
Writing Tips:
1. Go from the largest share to the smallest.
2. Take a stand (wise spending) and support it with the education figure.

You may begin like this: A detailed analysis of the itinerary provided by the tour organising vendor shows that it should be accepted/rejected.
You may end like this: Thus, the tour proposal should be approved/rejected.
Answer:
Approve
A detailed analysis of the itinerary provided by the tour organising vendor shows that it should be accepted. It is a properly planned itinerary and provides enough educational places to be visited by the students. The visit to Amber Fort and Jal Mahal will give an insight into the history of the kings of Jaipur. The visit to Sanganer will help the students learn about handmade paper factories, blue pottery and block printing. The jungle safari will connect the students with the wildlife and provide an experience of adventure. The bottled water and the tour manager's assistance will ensure the physical well-being and safety of the students. Thus, the tour proposal should be approved.
OR Reject
A detailed analysis of the itinerary provided by the tour organising vendor shows that it should be rejected. Though the tour provides enough educational places to be visited by the students, there is an issue of the students' safety and well-being. The early morning departure from the hotel on day 3 and late night arrival on the same day will leave the students exhausted and also raise questions about their safety. The jungle safari, as exciting as it sounds, can be dangerous for school students. The DJ party is not suitable for an educational tour. There are no details about the hotels and triple sharing may not be suitable for all the students. Thus, the tour proposal should be rejected.
Writing Tips:
1. Choose one side and select only the features that support it (timings, safety, activities).
2. Use the given opening and closing lines exactly.
Question 5. Read the following excerpt from an article that appeared in the magazine section of a local daily:
"The ban on single-use plastic is impractical. The purpose of articles like bags and packaging is ultimately to make human life easier. Plastic articles do this well, so they shouldn't be banned."
Write a paragraph to analyse the given argument.
Answer:
Ban on Plastic
Single-use plastic is omnipresent in present-day culture and this has devastating consequences for the environment. Taking note of this, governments all over the world are joining hands to ban plastic. But is that really a solution when everything from medical equipment to furniture to household equipment is made from plastic? We are yet to come up with an alternative to plastic, and we must think of how plastic has made life convenient for us. Affordable packs and sachets have made things easier and accessible for the poor. The ban is also impractical as it has only made us replace one form of plastic with another; we are buying plastic garbage bags to dispose of garbage. Until a replacement is found, single-use plastic only adds more plastic to landfills, which is harmful for the environment. There needs to be a better plan before the plastic ban is enforced.
Writing Tips:
1. Weigh both sides of the argument before giving your conclusion.
2. Support each point with an everyday example.
