Problems in taking basic Maths as an Option
To help students and parents we list the problems that students may face if they choose basic mathematics as an option. Besides this, the curriculum of both versions of mathematics will remain the same. All schools will continue to teach the same curriculum for mathematics. However, the level of question paper will be simpler for students choosing Mathematics Basic as compared to Mathematics standard. This means that students who want to discontinue mathematics in senior secondary classes can opt for basic level examination for mathematics and they will have to face comparatively simple paper in the examination.
Although CBSE has clarified most of the questions, there are some concerns related to it. Teachers suspect that students who opt for basic mathematics may face problems if they want to replace the board during Class 11 admissions.

Students who take Basic Mathematics, if change their mind also have an option of appearing for Standard Mathematics paper with the compartment examinations conducted in July. But they have to clear the Basic Mathematics exam scheduled in February – March.
However, teachers believe that the decision to choose basic mathematics over standard mathematics is for the child and parents. In the meantime, all are urged to carefully go through the FAQs regarding Basic Mathematics shared by CBSE before deciding on choosing Basic Mathematics or Standard mathematics. Schools are also seeking parental consent in writing about their decision to take Basic Mathematics over Standard Mathematics.
