Q1) How the narrator was convinced that she had made no mistake and had reached the right address?
Ans: When the woman who opened the door gave no sign of recognition, the narrator thought she was perhaps mistaken and had rung the wrong bell. When she saw the woman wearing her mother’s green knitted cardigan, she was convinced that she had made no mistake and reached the right address.
 
Q2) How did the narrator and Mrs. Dorling recognize each other? 
Ans:  The narrator knocked at Mrs. Dorling’s house. Mrs. Dorling recognized her and even asked how she had come back alive from the war. But she did not let the narrator enter her house. The narrator recognized Mrs. Dorling from the cardigan she was wearing. It was her mother’s.
 
Q3) Why did the narrator visit Mrs. Dorling? 
Ans: When the war was over, the narrator became curious about her mother’s belongings. She wanted to see and touch them. So she decided to visit Mrs. Dorling.
 
Q4) Why did the narrator think that she had rung the wrong bell? 
Ans: She thought like this because when she rang Mrs. Dorling’s bell, she came out. She refused to recognize her. But all her doubts were dispelled when she saw Mrs. Dorling in her mother’s cardigan.
 
Q5) How did the narrator feel when she found herself in the midst of her mother’s belongings?
Ans: When she was in the midst of her mother’s belongings, she was horrified to find them in a pitiable condition. The tasteless manner, in which those things were arranged, oppressed her.
