1. Listen, repeat and read with me.

When you drop me on the floor
I get stepped on - my sides are sore;
Torn-out pages make me groan;
I feel dizzy if I'm thrown;
Every mark and every stain
On my covers gives me pain;
Please don't bend me, if you do
I don't want to talk to you;
But we will both be friends together,
If you protect me from the weather
And keep me clean so that I look
A tidy, neat and happy book.

Teacher's Note

This poem teaches children to care for books. In India, we have a saying - "Kitaab ek apna saathi hai" which means a book is your friend. Children must learn to keep their books clean and safe.

Exam Trick

Remember: The book says "I feel pain" when you bend, throw or stain it. Think of the book like a living friend - would you throw your friend? Would you bend your friend? No! So don't do it to books.

Points to Remember

The book does not like being dropped on the floor.
Pages get torn when you pull them out.
Marks and stains on the cover hurt the book.
We should protect books from water and bad weather.
Keeping books clean makes them happy and helps them last long.
