Upmanyu Chapter Introduction

Nanabhai Kalidas Bhatt (Born: E.S. 1882, Died: E.S. 1961)

This chapter offers the story of Upmanyu. Upmanyu is a pupil of Dhaumya Rishi. Even though he is intelligent, he is greedy. To make him fit for learning and to remove his excessive eating, Dhaumya Rishi puts him to the test. Ultimately, Upmanyu goes through the bad experience of losing his sight. He feels sorry for his error. The Rishi, pleased by him, then grants him initiation.

[There is a story of Upmanyu in this lesson. Upmanyu is a disciple of Rushi Dhaumya. Though he is clever, he is voracious. To make him eligible for learning and to remove his voraciousness Rushi Dhaumya tests him. At last Upmanyu has a bad experience of becoming blind. He regrets for his mistake.
