રૂપાંતર પાઠ-પરિચય

પ્રસ્તુત વાર્તા તેની અનોખી લેખનશૈલીને કારણે પ્રસિદ્ધ બની છે. આ વાર્તામાં વાર્તાનાયિકા કોકિલાની મનોદશા વાર્તાને અંતે કેવી રીતે પલટાય છે, તેનું અહીં અસરકારક વર્ણન કર્યું છે. સાસુનું વહાલ તેને ગમવા લાગે છે. કોકિલાનું સાસુમાં થયેલું રૂપાંતર બંને વચ્ચેના ખટરાગને દૂર કરે છે.

વહુનું સાસુમાં રૂપાંતર થાય તે પ્રકારની રચના-પ્રયુક્તિમાં બે સ્તરે વાર્તા વહે છે. સાસુમાં વહાલનો ઉભાર એમની નિજી અનિવાર્યતામાંથી જન્મ્યો છે. સાસુનું મમ્મીમાં થયેલું રૂપાંતર કથાનાયિકાના માનસને પલટાવી નાખે છે. જેને કારણે વાર્તાનાયિકા સાસુ વહાલને સમજી શકી.

[This story is famous for its peculiar style of writing. At the end of the story, there is an effective description of the character Kokila's mental condition. She begins to like the love of her mother-in-law. Transformation of Kokila into mother-in-law removes the quarrel between them.

Here, the story flows into two stages - the daughter-in-law's transformation into mother-in-law. Mother-in-law's love has overflowed from her own requirement. The transformation of the mother-in-law into mother changes the mental condition of the main character of the story, so that she can understand the love of her mother-in-law.

Short dialogues of the story play an important role to represent mental afflication of the character, small actions reactions and events.
