साहस का महत्त्व : कोई भी या कैसा भी कार्य बिना हिम्मत के पूरा नहीं होता। अर्जुन, भीम, भीष्म और अभिमन्यु जैसे बहादुर लोग अपने अच्छे साहस की वजह से महान बन पाए हैं। ये ऐसे साहसी बड़े लोग थे, जो हर व्यक्ति के दिल में बस गए हैं।
साहस, साहस में अंतर : हिम्मत भी अनेक प्रकार की होती है। गुस्से में आकर अपने फायदे के लिए की गई हिम्मत को अच्छा नहीं कहा जा सकता। चोर-डाकुओं और तानाशाह राजाओं द्वारा किया गया साहस इसी प्रकार का होता है। इसे निचले दर्जे का साहस कहा जाता है।
मध्यम श्रेणी का साहस : यह प्रकार की हिम्मत अक्सर योद्धाओं में पाई जाती है। इस हिम्मत से योद्धाओं के महान विचार, उनकी निडरता, लापरवाही और निःस्वार्थ भाव प्रकट होते हैं, पर उनमें जानकारी की कमी मिलती है। उदाहरण के लिए, दो योद्धाओं का हिम्मत दिखाते हुए मर जाना। ऐसी हिम्मत को मध्यम दर्जे का साहस माना जाता है।
सर्वोच्च श्रेणी का साहस : इसके लिए शारीरिक शक्ति और धनवान होना आवश्यक नहीं है। इसके लिए इंसान में पवित्रता, दयालुता, चरित्र की मजबूती और जिम्मेदारी की भावना होनी चाहिए। हर साहसी व्यक्ति को अपने कर्तव्य के बारे में सोचना चाहिए। उसके मन में यह भावना होनी चाहिए कि उसने जो कुछ भी किया है, उसे सिर्फ अपना फर्ज समझकर किया है।
बुद्धन सिंह का उदाहरण : मारवाड़ के मौरूदा गाँव के जमींदार बुद्धन सिंह लड़ाई की वजह से अपना देश छोड़कर जयपुर में रहने लगे थे। पर एक बार जब मराठों ने मारवाड़ पर हमला किया, तो वह अपनी सेना के साथ दुश्मनों से मारवाड़ की सुरक्षा के लिए वापस आ गए थे। यह बुद्धन सिंह की जिम्मेदारी और उसका सच्चा साहस था।
सत्साहसी व्यक्ति के गुण : एक सच्चा साहसी इंसान किसी को दुख से बचाने के लिए अपनी जान तक देने को तैयार हो जाता है, चाहे वह व्यक्ति जाना-पहचाना हो या अनजान।
सत्साहस : देश, समय और फर्ज को ध्यान में रखते हुए, बिना किसी स्वार्थ के हिम्मत न छोड़ते हुए जिम्मेदार बनने का प्रयास ही सच्चा साहस है।
